      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      4/10

Well the clues in the title with this oven really , I have been really disappointed with it I bought it because it was obviously an oven on a budget and it can fit into a small area quite conveniently . I was definitely not buying it for its looks that's for sure as it looks like something that would be more suited to a camping trip! my main issue with this oven is that is so slow! It takes ages to get the temperature you need and basic meals that shouldn't take that long to cook will take double the time, for example if your planning on having a jacket potato it will take around 2 hours to get them cooked ! This oven is very underpowered and should only be bought as a temporary measure as it is very basic with just on shelf and a grill , so please avoid unless it is needed for a quick fix oven!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Best avoided really.

Our oven recently died and we needed a replacement. We have plans to remodel the kitchen in a few years time so thought we get a cheap stop-gap for the time being. Our choice was limited as we needed an oven that would fit the gap left by the old cooker, which was pretty narrow, certainly the narrowest oven I have ever used. This Currys Essentials oven seemed to fit the bill. It is a single oven with grill, and 4 electric hotplates. It comes with one shelf, one grill pan that can act as a shelf and a grill deflector.

        Good points

This oven is cheap and it cooks food well. Having no fan it is also silent, which I quite like. The grill is in the top of the main baking compartment and a grill deflector is provided. This prevents the oven door being accidentally closed when the grill is in operation.

The glass fronted door allows you to see inside and it is easy to clean.

        Bad points

The above obviously means you cannot grill and bake at the same time. Having to have the oven door open for grilling is potentially hazardous, but this is not the only hazard that surrounds this oven. Shortly after purchase we received a letter from Currys advising us that there had been instances of the oven shelf collapsing under the weight of heavy cooking such as casseroles. We were advised the grill tray should be used for such heavy cooking.

As with all electric hobs the hotplates stay hot a long time after they are turned off. When in operation a light signals that the hob is on, but it goes off immediately you switch off, so there is no indication that the hob might be hot.

The controls are white plastic with a small indentation signalling the on/off position, or which setting or temperature has been selected. I have discovered that a lot of people can't see these, and have had to mark them on with a marker pen.

I have also had to label the dials 'front right', 'back left' etc as it seems my family are challenged by the diagrams, but to be fair I think the diagrams are perfectly clear.

Finally, the hotplates take a long time to heat up, and this is something you have to factor in to the cooking.Cleaning around the hot plates is awkward especially when it is advised that scouters are not used.

        Recommendation

This is not an oven I would recommend, particularly if you have a toddler as we will shortly.
