Having built a new kitchen 3 years ago we wanted to buy a range cooker, but found we had limited funds. Anything over a grand was a tad over budget so we had to really look around for a decent one. We eventually found this Hoptpoint cooker which had some average reviews. I loved the idea of a spacious cooker with 2 ovens - it meant cooking for the family at Christmas would be a doodle.
Our heavy cooker arrived and was delivered by one guy who struggled to get it in the house by himself - I had to help.
Spec was good but not great. The beast is made of stainless steel and its width is 100cm. It has a 7 burner gas hob (with 3 cast iron supports) a separate electric grill, and a left and right over. There's also a plate warmer under the right oven
One thing I really love about cooking on this appliance is the wok burner. It's placed to the right of the gas hob and not in the center like some models which means it doesn't take up valuable space if you need to cook other stuff on the hob. To the left of the hob is a rapid burner which heats food up very quickly.
Each oven has 2 shelves and the fan assisted over cooks food fairly evenly but not perfectly. The right oven barely gets used and the several times that I have used it I've managed to cremate pizzas and sausage rolls - though I have no idea why this is so.
As with most cookers there's a handy little storage compartment to the bottom right which can also be used as a plate warmer - but takes ages to warm up, you're better off putting the plates in the right oven for a bit. Both ovens have catalytic oven liners which means they are self cleaning as they vapourise splashes of grease and other bits of food without leaving a trace - I wish the rest of the oven was like this as it would make life a lot easier as it's hard to clean.
After 3 months of it living in our new kitchen the small gas burner would work when we tried to ignite it. This didn't bother us too much as we had 6 other burners. Then a month after that the digital display on the right packed up, so we contacted Hotpoint to raise this 2 issues. They were great and sent out a chap to repair the problems within a week. He fixed the burner and said it was apparently a common problem!! He couldn't fix the LED there and then as he didn't have any on his van so we had to wait a further 2 weeks for him to return - but this really wasn't a problem. That was nearly 3 years ago and since then we've not had a single problem with the cooker.
It's basically a cheap and cheerful range for those on a budget. Not the best of quality I've seen but it cooks the food and that's the most important thing.
My partner and I bought a new house last year, which came with one of these cookers already fitted, and have been nothing but impressed with it ever since.
Physically, the only way to describe this cooker is massive - it is absolutely huge! Ours is chained back to the wall to eliminate the risk of it toppling forwards.
The fact it is so huge obviously means that there is plenty of internal cooking space. There are 3 separate ovens, which is very handy when cooking large meals. The 4th door is for the grill, which is also very large.
On top there are 7 gas hobs of varying sizes. 1 of these is specifically designed to be used for cooking in a wok. 2 of these hobs are shaped and positioned for cooking steaks on - the cooker also comes with a specialist steak cooking plate which fits conveniently on top of these 2 hobs. This is a very handy feature as the plate provided gets extremely hot - perfect for cooking steaks on.
Ergonomically, the cooker is very well designed. All of the controls and buttons are very easy to use - I have never had to read the manuals to work out how to operate any of the functions.
We have not had any problems yet, other than one of the seals coming loose on one of the doors - this weas rewplaced under warranty by Hotpoint.
Overall, an excellent cooker which I would happily recommend to anyone.
