Cooking on electric doesn't work for me

My parents cook on electric as they have no gas inlet into their home. Their cooker is a Hotpoint HUE52KS and I had the dubious pleasure of using it while I stayed at their house last week.

I don't get on well with electric cookers and this one I thought was unresponsive and took so long to heat up that several times I phoned dad to check that was right and it is, the cooker does take longer to initially heat up than it does to cook your dinner. I was unimpressed.

The hob rings are all very powerful but I hate the way the glow leaves them long before they have cooled down to a safe level. This doesn't happen so much with gas but the heat produced by these rings is hot enough to boil potatoes in less time than usual on my gas cooker at home so they're obviously powerful enough to deliver a bad burn if you're not careful.

Food cooks well in the oven when you know what you're doing but the knobs don't seem to have very much relation to the temperature inside, my mum has it spot on as she's so used to cooking on electric but I had only just worked out rough guidelines and then it was time to go home!

The cooker is easy to keep clean inside and out as it has a surface that wipes clean using just a cloth. Mum tells me she gets on her knees and cleans it top to bottom every few months but the inside of the oven and also the hob is sparkling clean even though they use the cooker every day, and as a retired couple sometimes more than once a day if they want hot food for their meals.

To recommend this I would say that if you are used to cooking on electric then this is a fine cooker that looks good in the kitchen and someone with experience can cook a decent meal in a short time using it. Personally I prefer gas as I think I get better results.

This cooker costs just short of £300 so an average price for a cooker of this type by this manufacturer.
