A really great looking cooker, solid and chunky, however rather temperamental in its cooking habits!

Hubby and I bought this cooker about 6 months ago after our old Cannon cooker finally met its end. Being a Cannon and an old one at that obviously meant it was fantastic and the new cooker had a lot to live up to! We saw the Leisure GR6CVK in our local appliance store, Gilmans which as an aside point was the only shop we could find that stocked a decent range of Gas cookers. After a bit of debating and discussion over whether we would rather get another Cannon because we knew they were reliable and we had never heard of this brand before, we decided to go ahead and give Leisure a go because we were assured it should be as good as a Cannon and also because of its attractive range-like design. We actually bought it in the cream rather than the black because we thought it looked country-cottage like.
The cooker itself is not bad. The hot plates all work fine and are of different sizes which are great for all my different sized pots and pans. There is also a large griddling plate which comes with the cooker which sits over two of the hot plates which is excellent for cooking bacon and eggs on and also for making an attractive lined pattern when griddling meats. The hot plates all light easily and provide even cooking and have not caused me any trouble at all.

The main oven is fine and cooks most things pretty well. That is apart from batter puddings. In the Cannon, cooking batters was fail proof. In this oven they don't seem to rise as well. I'm guessing this oven doesn't get as hot as the Cannon used to, which is a bit of a disappointment as you would have thought that all cookers should be fairly regular in their temperatures. There is plenty of space in the oven to fit several baking trays in at once and it also has one of those handy baking tray door attachments so when you open the door the baking tray that comes with the oven, comes out attached to the door, which prevents you from burning your arms if you oven gloves are too short (as I frequently manage to do) from reaching into the oven. I really love this feature.

Unfortunately after about a month of actually owning the cooker, the ignition on the oven stopped working. A little random considering that the ignition for the hot plates was still working and it is all part of the same thing. Anyway, we went back to Gilman's and they were very good, they sent someone out straight away to have a look and after a few attempts they managed to fix it. It is working fine now, but nevertheless it was a little annoying to have our brand new one month old cooker go wrong.

There is separate top oven which is about half the size of the main oven, which is kind of handy if you are just cooking a small dish and you don't need to use the main oven. Most of the time it is equally as useful when cooking a lot of food where you need to use both ovens however we have found that on occasion it is a little temperamental. There has been half an hour to go, so I've lit the top oven, left it running for a few minutes to get hot and then popped the stuffing in to start cooking. Then I go away, come back 20 mins later to find that the oven has gone out. Not particularly helpful. You either have to hold the rest of the dinner back and relight the top oven to cook the stuffing, praying it will work, or use it another day. It doesn't do this all the time, but it does sometimes and it is annoying when it does.

Overall the cooker seems pretty well built, the knobs and handles are quite sturdy and the oven doors shut securely. The oven timer works just fine. The main oven (since being fixed) cooks fine and the top oven in general is very useful and it is quite a handy feature to have a separate oven like that. I think the price we paid of around £429.00 is fairly reasonable for the cooker it is just a shame that ours happened to break. I am pretty sure they don't all do this because we checked out the reviews for this cooker before we bought it and nothing came up about this, I guess we were just unlucky.

I would rate this cooker as a 6.5/10 because of the attractive design, the well thought out hot plate sizes, the griddling plate and the fact that now it is fixed the main oven is reliable. Also I like the baking tray door attachment. I have to mark it down because I found the fact that it went wrong after only a month quite irksome, also because the top oven can be temperamental at the times when you really need it to work and for the fact that the oven doesn't get hot enough for batter puddings to rise properly.
