I have owned this cooker for nearly three years now. It was a difficult decision to buy it because I found it very hard to justify spending so much money on a cooker! However, I have not regretted it for a minute and would recommend it to anyone (indeed my parents also bought one and love theirs as well).
The build quality is excellent and it looks very good as well. The 5 burners would be very useful for someone who has large meals to cook although I have managed to find enough pans for four to be used at the same time.
The two fan ovens are very useful - I probably use the smaller one more often because of the large number of shelves inside - it's great for parties.
The only thing that I haven't used is the door hanging roasting tray because being veggie I haven't cooked a roast! My parents used the one on theirs though and it is great, but means that the other shelves inside the oven aren't available as easily.
The lid on top is very useful for making it look tidy and keeping it clean. It also means that the gas is shut off which is good if you have children or pets that might accidentally turn the knobs.
I bought the Toledo (90 cms wide) as it was about the only range cooker with both gas hobs and more importantly a gas oven. (The second oven is electric).
The range is delivered and installed by Rangemaster who are both very good with their communications for arranging a date and time and very good with delivery. As my building work was incomplete they did not install it but installation is reasonably simple.
It is very much a cooker which does what it claims to do. The hob arrangement is slightly counter productive with both the simmer and highest rated rings both at the front. The non stick griddle sits on two gas rings and works well but it would have been more convenient if it were designed to sit on the wok burner.
The grill is very efficient and the gas oven works well.
The second oven is a strange appendage. It is not really wide enough to accept regular roasting pans and is clearly a cut down version from the wider (120 cms) Toledo model. However it is good as an ancillary oven and for an electric oven heats up reasonably quickly.
The ignition for the grill broke (probably a combination of my incompetence and poor design). Rangemaster arranged for a service engineer to correct it within two days. The service engineer came from a sub contractor that services a complete range of manufacturers so it was reassuring when he said that it was his favourite cooker - easy to repair - hardly anything went wrong with them compared to others - and that it was really well built.
It is easy to clean but the silver rings around the hob burners do get dirty very easily.
It has some major faults.
The smaller electric has a nice magnetic catch so the door is very easy to close. The gas over has some kind of spring bayonet catch which requires a firm action like slamming the door to ensure it closes. Often it just rebounds back open.
The controls have had no design input at all from any human being. They are a complete mess. Some turn clockwise, some anti clockwise; some begin at the highest setting and turn to the lowest, others start at the lowest and turn to the highest; the geography of the controls, which control effects which burner/oven is poorly laid out so you are often turning the wrong thing on. For the cost of this cooker you would expect something better than this.
In conclusion - it works - looks quite good and has really bad controls.
When I moved into my new house (a new build on a new development) the kitchen came with the impressive kitchen beast that I like to call the Rangemaster 90 (when I say came free I mean didn't have to pay extra on top of the extortionist price we had to pay for the house).
Anyway, I was very impressed by this little fact and that almost sold the house to me then and there, but not quite. If you have to buy them I believe they are in the region of £1,500 but in my opinion well, well worth it if you can afford it.
Anyway, I can tell you, I am the envy of all my friends now whenever they come over as after 2 years they still mention the oven as the first thing they do when they walk in the kitchen.
According to a recent range cooker survey carried about by Which ? magazine, they voted it best buy August 2007 and for the Toledo 110 they said that the temperature was extremely accurate and that the griddle produces great results.
The Rangemaster 90 has two gas ovens. The lower one on the left hand side has a tray that fits on the door and also two other trays inside. The side oven is thinner but has 4 shelves inside with 9 different slats that you can put the trays on. Each oven has its own temperature knob so you can cook two things at once at different temperatures which is fantastic. Used in conjunction with the timer this proves an invaluable tool if you are out but want to start the oven before you get him. The lower oven has a light inside it and a clear fronted door to allow you to see your food cooking and make sure it is done.
There are 5 gas burning hobs, one which is double the size of the others. The oven comes with a grill plate that you put over this large hob in order to cook burgers on etc. The hobs are very easy to clean as they all come apart and you can then wash them in the sink.
There is also a grill at the top of the oven that allows you to do toast, bacon etc. The oven comes with a tray and a handle attached for use in the grill.
The oven has a glass cover which once put down cuts off all the gas immediately so it is a very good safety feature. When the cover is shut it also allows you to put things on top of the oven. When up it is a good back splasher for grease and is very easy to clean.
I have found this a very powerful cooker, everything cooks to the time said on the packet and in my opinion its best feature is how it looks in your kitchen, very cool and sleek.
The Rangemaster 90 offers Rangemasters unique configuration of two spacious ovens including a tall electric fan oven and a separate grill compartment, making it large enough to cook a completemeal, while the hob configuration with 5 burners, offers maximum flexibility for the discerning cook / Short name: Rangemaster 90
