Two years ago I had my kitchen re-fitted from scratch so had the luxury of being able to plan my space. I have a medium size space, like to cook but need all the storage space possible. Many of the range cookers that I considered were either very large - 8 burner type that would have dominated my kitchen and I didn't feel I needed that capacity. I decided to go for the mid range of 90cm which is an oven and a half and don't regret it. I chose the rangemaster toledo in the 90 range because I felt that it most efficiently used the available space. Some 90cm ranges have 1 large oven or 2 ovens but no seperate grill - the rangemaster has a full size oven, a seperate grill that you can have on all or half mode and a long slimmer 2nd oven with a solid door rather than glass. The gas hob has 5 burners - 1 which is suitable for a wok and a seperate solid plate that you can use as a griddle by placing it over 2 burners but that is easy to remove and wash. I chose the gunmetal colour because I didn't want the hassle of stainless steel and the fingerprints! The colour, in my opinion is gorgeous in an understated, classy way and as it is not high gloss you can wipe it and not then have to polish it dry to stop smears. The cooker itself has 2 ovens. Both ovens have plenty of space. Recently we had a party for my 11 year old daughter and managed to get 7 pizzas in the second oven (it comes with 5 shelves) so I used my 2 shelves from my microwave plus 5 garlic bread and a shelf of chicken dippers in the main oven. The main oven has 2 shelves plus what is counted as a meat shelf which is actually a shelf system with its own solid tray that attaches to the draw at a choice of 2 heights. This effectively gives you 3 shelves in the main oven. I do not use both ovens on a weekly basis but I have found since having the increased cooking capacity I do far more batch cooking. On special occasions it really comes into its own and I have all 5 burners in use most days. I use the second tall oven as an extra cupboard for my oven sized plates as it comes with a plate rack and by adjusting the shelf heights they fit will ease. The grill is the weak point of the rangemaster in my opinion. The pan itself is of a good quaility and size but there is only 1 real height option. Yes you can turn the metal rack upside down to make it lower but this difference is negligable and the grill is still too high to grill a thick steak or chop. You can get around this by leaving the grill tray on the base of the grill area rather than putting it up on the runners. Also when you have the grill down you can not open the main oven door because of the handles - you have to half shut the grill to get the oven open. Many rangemaster models have a glass lid. When I chose the toledo I thought a glass lid would just be extra cleaning, however I can now see the advatage as a lid would stop the crumbs that seem to gather in my kitchen and I would be able to put the lid down and hide the cooker when unexpected visitors turn up and it is not gleaming. If I was picking a new cooker tomorrow I would definately chose the rangemaster again.
The 90cm Toledo model features Rangemasters unique configuration of two full temperature automatic ovens and a separate grill. Available in gas, dual fuel as well as an elegant easy clean ceramic hob version. Available in five colours, Champagne, Silver, Gunmetal Grey, Gloss Black and NEW Stainless Steel.
