We bought one of these after reading good reviews about halogen ovens. This particular oven has a replaceable halogen bulb which we felt might make it last a bit longer.
We have had it for almost a year now, we got the red version which looks lovely! When it arrived, the base was cracked, but Andrew James replaced it very quickly. We are still using the cracked base, the other one is a spare for if it gets worse!
It heats up very quickly, around 2-3 mins to get to the maximum temperature. We have used it to cook whole chickens, and for reheating frozen items (eg, nuggets, chips) and things like chinese starters from the supermarket.
Some things it does very well and definitely quicker - such as the frozen items. Chips from the takeaway which are frozen and then reheated taste better than they did first time round!
Some things are probably about the same as our fan oven - such as the chicken - but tastes much better and very moist.
The bowl and the lid do get very very hot - don't leave the lid directly on your worksurface and make sure children stay well clear. We bought a stand for the lid which is better but a bit fiddly. A hinged lid would be much better, but it is also more expensive!
The tongs are almost useless for lifting things out and don't feel very secure. I bought some silicon gloves to use instead!!
The high stand is also a bit wobbly which can be difficult when you are trying to lift things off it.
We haven't had to replace the bulb yet!
I have just recently bought an Andrew James halogen oven after hearing from a lot of people about how good they were. I was not disappointed with this appliance and it is being used daily in my house from cooking Sunday roasts to heating-up pies.
The oven does take a bit of experimenting with the cooking times but once you become confident in doing this then there is no limit as to what you can cook in it.
I would recommend paying the extra money for the fixed lid model as I think it is a lot safer than having to take the lid off and stand it on a kitchen top.The light clicking on and off is quite comforting and allows you to see how your food is progressing.
The only disadvantages that I have come across with the oven is the time that some hard vegetables and onions take to cook which seems strange when it cooks most other things quicker, but all things considered I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
