Steaming has always been my preferred choice of meals wherever possible, so when my electric steamer broke, p and I didn't have enough money to replace it I was fretting over the quality of my meals from now on, but I had a browse around and found this steamer pan set for a bargain.
I wish I'd have been using pans instead of the electric steamer all this time, because it really has !are my meals taste the best.
A steamer is very easy to use. You fill the bottom pan with hotnor cold water, and the steam from the boiling water below works to cook through the land above which all contain holes.
You can use all the steamer layers ornjust one at a time depending on what you are cooking. I always place meat in the lower compartment and get in the upper. When steaming veg in comparison to boiling it is much much more tender, and keeps its full flavour, you really would be amazed by the standard, and the same goes for meat, much sifter and juicier than cooking any other way. And the best of all with all this extra flavour is it is the healthiest way to cook!
Always keep the lid on whilst cooking to keep the steam enclosed, and always wash after each use. The pans are very easy tonwash and keep their shine.
These are especially useful if you are weaning a baby, steamed veg makes them very soft and palletable, and very easy to purée.
I'd been pondering for sometime about buying a steamer pan, as the idea of just having one pan on the hob instead of three, held great appeal and also there was the added bonus that I would be using less electricity.
I was browsing Amazon at the various steamer pans available and eventually decided on this one manufactured by Chef Set Housewares.
Founded in 1978, as a small industrial metal spinning company who also produced pans, Chef Set Housewares have grown from their humble beginnings and expanded over the years.
Their Steamer pans are said to be made from superior quality stainless steel and carry a 10 year guarantee.
Both this information, the reviews from satisfied customers and also the price led to me buying this 3 tier steamer pan from Amazon at a price of only £10.25 which I think is quite a bargain price.
Indeed you can expect to pay around the £30 mark for a steamer pan by Prestige, so whilst I was fairly happy about making my choice, hoping I was getting a bargain, I must admit I did wonder if I would regret my decision and that maybe the pan wouldn't be of great quality. Especially as I am quite a believer of the saying "You get what you pay for."
A couple of days after ordering, my steamer pan arrived. The first thing I noticed was how light the box felt. Once again I found myself thinking I was not going to be happy with my purchase.
On opening the box, the three pans and the lid were wrapped individually inside. As I unwrapped them and held them in my hands, I was really surprised how light they felt, yet the quality seemed fine to me. They appeared sturdy enough and although lightweight, they are certainly not flimsy.
The steamer pan consists of an 18cm stock pan, glass lid with steam release hole and two steamer insert pans. It also features an encapsulated base for even heat distrution.
It is suitable for gas, electric, hot plate, ceramic and halogen hobs and is also safe to use in the dishwasher.
I have been using my steamer pan for a few weeks now and am happy to report that any fears I had about this not being a good quality product have been completely allayed.
Steaming vegetables in this pan is much quicker than when boiling them in individual saucepans and I couldn't believe just how much better they taste too! I wasn't really expecting to notice any difference in the end product but everyone has commented on how much tastier the vegetables are.
The other big bonuses are of course the reduced cooking times and saving electricity, both on the cooking time and the fact I am only using one part of my hob instead of three or four.
Sometimes I have bought pans where the handles and/or the knob on the lid become very hot whilst in use. I am happy to report here that neither the stainless steel handles on the sides of the pan, nor the knob on the lid become hot when in use, making it totally safe to touch.
The fact that this pan is so lightweight also makes it an easy option for those who cannot lift heavy objects.
I haven't had any problems with vegetables sticking to the pans at all and it is also very easy to clean.
There are larger steamer pans than this available and I was worried that this one may be too small for my needs, but I am more than happy with it. It holds enough veg for myself, partner and daughter. And when my other daughter comes to visit for tea there is still enough veg to go round.
I think if you are cooking a large meal, such as a Christmas dinner for a few people, or if you have more than four mouths to feed, then you may need to invest in two pans or buy a larger one.
Overall, I am very happy with this steamer pan and priced at only £10.25 from Amazon, I feel that I have got a bargain.
I can't imagine not using one now and can't believe it has taken me so long to actually get round to buying one. My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner!
