Review of Pyrex Oblong Roaster
Pyrex is a well-known brand of kitchen ware that I am sure most readers will be familiar with. I own quite a lot of Pyrex and really could not do without it.
This review centres on the oblong roaster.
This is a plain but very practical piece of cookware which like all Pyrex dishes is suitable for oven use; it is dishwasher proof and can also be used in the microwave and freezer. The material that Pyrex is made from is made from is called 'Borosilicate Glass', this product has high thermal shock resistance, hence its versatility.
Pyrex make their roaster in several sizes, the roaster in front of me measures 7" by 10". The roaster is fairly shallow in comparison to my metal roasting tins at approximately 2" deep. The Pyrex Roaster is a thick clear glass version, I know some years ago the company made solid coloured cookware, but I am not sure whether think this style is still available.
I do not really use mine for roasting meat, as I am a vegetarian and my meat eating partner is not particularly fond of roast dinners, simply because if we buy a chicken or joint of meat, he ends up eating it for days on end! I find this is excellent for cooking roast potatoes and other vegetables. I also utilise it for baked dishes such as lasagnes, pasta bakes and sweet dishes such as fruit crumbles.
The oblong shaped roaster has a handy lip at either end which has slightly raised areas; these make it easy to lift in and out of the oven. I consider this to be a very versatile, hard wearing piece of kitchenware. My Pyrex roaster is well over 30 years old; it was actually given to me as a wedding present back in 1975 and has out lasted my marriage by almost two decades!
Considering the age and amount of wear this dish has received, it is still in remarkably good condition. Pyrex is known as a very durable, easy-care range and this roaster is no exception.
Caring for your Pyrex is simple. Mine has only ever been washed by hand, although Pyrex can be safely washed in a dishwasher, I don't own one! I find that if something does get stuck on the surface of the roaster, a quick soak in warm soapy water and a scrub with the washing up brush brings the roaster back to its sparkling self.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
I consider Pyrex to be a kitchen must-have; it is easy to care for, practical in use and very versatile. Being such a simple, clear glass design, this Pyrex dish can be used both in the kitchen and as tableware. We often use our various Pyrex dishes as serving dishes too and their practical styling means they will go with any design of crockery.
I have no idea how much my Pyrex dish would have cost all those years ago, however I can advise that this roaster currently sells for around £4-£5 from various stockists, in my opinion this represents very good value for money particularly as Pyrex offer a 10 year guarantee on their products.
I would definitely recommend this Pyrex Roaster to others as it is excellent quality and a very useful item. I am awarding it a 5* rating.
Thank you for reading.
