I reserved these to collect off the Argos website a while ago, and paid around £12 for them. This is a set of three glass pyrex dishes, which I have ordered and used before, but after 4 years I decided to replace mine as they were terribly scratched!
You get 3 different sized glass bowls, I have taken the information for the sizing off the argos website:
0.5, 1 and 2 litre mixing bowls.
Small - diameter 14cm.
Medium - diameter 16cm.
Large - diameter 21cm.
I absolutely love these bowls, for the price they are brilliant for so many things in my kitchen. They aren't too heavy, but they are not really lightweight either. They have a good weight to them that makes them feel strong and durable, not like they would break easily. I have never had mine chip or break either in the 4 years I have been using them. The only thing is, the glass on mine has gone a cloudy colour and is really scratched now, and they just look so over used! I decided to replace them as they are cheap enough to do so.
The bowls can be used for all sorts, I usually use mine to make jelly in and leave it to set in the fridge in the bowl, they look nice when you put them out on the table with jelly/trifle in if you are having people round for dinner. They are very simple, but look really good quality so can be used for display too.
The sizes of these bowls are good, not too big, the large one is great for making up fruit bowls, salads, missing puddings, I use my bowls for all sorts. They wash really easily too, but the ones I had for a few years did get scratched and started to come up a cloudy colour after a few years.
The bowls are perfect for the price if you want something that is useful to every day life in your kitchen, I use mine all the time, and they stack nicely together in my cupboard too, and don't take up much room. I would definitely recommend these pyrex bowls, I have seen them in Tesco too for a similar price, you can't go wrong with them for the money they cost!
I seemed to be finding myself short of bowls for mixing, cooking and serving, so when I found this set of three Pyrex Bowls reduced to £9.99 on Amazon, I decided to invest. The RRP is £14.99.
The bowls arrived stacked one inside the other in a box - the box was a little flimsy, but the bowls weren't damaged in any way. The bowls are made of clear glass and 0.5 Litre, 1.0 Litre and 2.0 Litre. I find the large bowl great for mixing, cake mixes, pastries, crumble etc.
These bowls are designed to be cooked in too, perfect for making fruit crumbles (one of my favourite uses for the large bowl). Amazon states they bowls are made of borosilicate glass, this can be used up to 300 degrees. Pyrex state they are microwave safe, I've heated baked beans and simular products in the microwave with no issues. They can be used in the fridge (I've tested this with crumbles and jellies). They are also thankfully dishwasher proof, mine have been though many times in the last 6 months and still look nice and shiny.
I've also used the bowls to put salads, tomatoes and various cold dishes out, when we've had guests round. It states on Amazon that they are scratch resistant and don't allow for transfer of flavours. I've had a onion ladden potato salad in one day, then a crumble the next and there certainly wasn't any trace of the onion.
They come with a 10 year guarantee, so Pyrex must be pretty confident in their bowls. They do feel very robust and mine - despite heavy use for 6 months are showing no signs of wear as yet.
The sizes make them easy to store in the cupboard as they can be stored one inside the other. A great kitchen essential, don't know what I'd do without them now. Highly recommended.
I have owned these particular dishes for absolutely ages they are one of the only things that I managed to keep someone from breaking when we flat shared and these have since then traveled with me and gone through a couple of my mad moves!
I bought these as mixing bowls because quite frankly I got really fed up of buying cheap plastic ones that stained easily and melted and so on and my Mum has always been a fan of Pyrex as a brand as I grew up so I've always tried to purchase it when I could afford it so I don't have to keep replacing stuff cos its just so long lasting and durable.
These come in a set of 3 boxed and the sizes of the dishes are 0.5L/1.0L/2.0L, in short that gives you a smallish one, a medium and a rather large one....think 3 bear sizes and you'll get my drift lol.
Each one is the same in its appearance apart from size and that is that bowl is plain and made from a clear glass which is called borosilicate glass. It is scratch proof, stain resistant and suitable for cookers (up to 300c in temp) and you can also use these in the microwave, fridge and freezer safely and all are dishwasher proof.
I use these probably the most often in my kitchen whether it be to shove things in to marinade them, whip up some scrambled eggs in them....... really allsorts and I remember when I bought them thinking after they arrived...why???? I initially thought I probably would never use them asits not like I am a hugely big cook or anything like that but they are simply so handy for so much in the kitchen these days.
They are stain resistant as I mentioned earlier and although I have actually owned them a few years now they seriously really do look as good as when I purchased them. These take a good beating from me on a regular basis as I'm rather clumsy and add to that when I marinade they do go in the fridge for a while though I haven't felt the need to put them in my oven I do use them to microwave soup and noodles in often and have had no issue with them at all and find them very versatile, reliable and as usual from the the Pyrex brand.....amazing quality.
My set of these 3 bowls cost me £9.50 from Amazon.com including p+p though do shop about for these or Google them as you may get even a better deal than what I got!
I love cooking and baking and to be able to do this you need to have certain equipment including bowls for mixing and preparing food. My mum always swears by Pyrex because of its longevity so when I moved into my own home I purchased several Pyrex items including this set of 3 bowls of varying sizes.
I purchased my set of 3 Pyrex bowls (0.5 litres, 1 litre and 2 litres) from Tesco and from what I can remember I think I paid around £8-10 in the sale. They are still available to purchase from Tesco and are currently priced at £9.50 but they are widely available from various retailers.
These Pyrex bowls are made from very strong clear glass which is dishwasher, freezer and oven safe. This makes the bowls very versatile for all sorts of different uses in the kitchen. Also as these bowls are different sizes they can be stored by staking them inside each other which save space which is one thing I am short of in my tiny apartment kitchen.
I tend to use the large bowl for mixing cakes with you even being able to use an electric whisk in it without it causing any damage to the glass. The medium bowl I use for mixing things like stuffing, gravel granules or making jelly in. While the small bowl is mainly used for whisking eggs or to hold measured out ingredients in for baking. I also use these bowls for serving food in as well for items like salads, crisps, dips etc.
I have never used these bowls in the oven as there are not may items which require cooking in a bowl but I also have Pyrex dishes in other shapes and have no problems with these so I am sure the bowls would be fine too. But I do often use these in the microwave either to defrost items in like meat or to warm up foods such as baked beans or soup and find that they work brilliantly you just need to make sure you use a microwave safe plate or some cling film to cover the top of the bowl to prevent splattering.
Cleaning the Pyrex bowls is also very easy, with them being glass they do not stain and no matter what you seem to put in them washes off easily without the need for heavy scrubbing. I have had my bowls for a few years now and although the large one which is the most used has a few scratches on the bottom there is no other wear and as long as I do not drop them then I have no doubt in my mind that these will last much longer yet.
Overall I would certainly recommend these Pyrex bowls for anyone to have they are so versatile, wash easily and are amazing value for money due to how long they last and don't take up a huge amount of storage space.
As anyone who enjoys cooking will know, having a good set of bowls is essential for both mixing ingredients, marinating meat and presenting food. As I have recently had the misfortune of losing one of my bowls (I can only guess I left it at somebody's house and they have since confused it with one of theirs), I went out a few weeks ago to search for a replacement. On my travels, I went into my local Argos and seeing that they were selling a set of three bowls, I ordered a set there and then. Pyrex has always been a brand that I associate with quality and therefore I was only to pleased to try these bowls out.
As the name might suggest, these bowls come in a set of three which vary in size from a small to a large bowl to suit your various needs. The bowl sizes are given in litres with the smallest being 0.5 litres, the medium 1 litre and the large 2 litre but to put these sizes into context the diameter of the three bowls is 14cm, 16cm and 21cm. My favourite feature of these bowls is the fact that they are made out of a thick durable glass with a slightly pronounced glass lip around the edges of the bowls and the bases are stamped with the trademark 'Pyrex' logo. I have always liked glass objects, partly due to the fact that I like to see the sunlight reflected through them, and therefore I did like the look of these bowls which although simplistic are very clean and (I hope) will stay looking as good as new for years to come.
I might add at this point the various features that these bowls have which include the fact that they are heat resistant up to 300°C, are stain and scratch resistant and come with a 10 year guarantee. All points which only add to my high opinion of the Pyrex brand.
These bowls are very fit for purpose in my opinion, and although heavy this only adds to their quality feel when in use. I find that my bowls are particularly useful for a range of cooking needs and in particular I find the larger bowl very useful for marinating meat for dinner as it sits quite compactly inside my fridge during the day. It is also useful for cooking casseroles and our favourite chicken and broccoli curry as it is the perfect size for the two of us and with the high temperature tolerance I can be sure that it won't crack when in the oven. Although the medium and small bowls are quite compact in size for cooking, I still find them useful for mixing up sauces and wet mixes and it is very helpful having the three bowl options particularly when cooking a complicated dish as the three bowls can be used for three entirely different purposes at the same time. The simplistic design of these bowls means that they are perhaps not suited to presenting food at a dinner party but nonetheless they are incredibly versatile for day to day living in my opinion.
Once they have been used for the intended purpose, I do find that the bowls are incredibly easy to clean and even baked on food stuffs come off quite easily with a few minutes soak in the washing up bowl. My bowls still look sparkly clean weeks after buying them and I like the way that they can be slotted together in between uses as it means that in my smallish kitchen the cupboard space can be maximised.
I purchased my set of three bowls from Argos and paid £11.99 for them. I consider this great value as it only works out at around £4 each. However, I was slightly amused to find them in my local Tesco recently for just under £10. The great price and quality of these bowls means that they simply are a must have in any kitchen cupboard in my opinion and I look forward to using mine in the years to come. For this they score an excellent five stars from me.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
~ Why I Bought It ~
I bought this bowl set mainly because I only had one mixing bowl at the time which I was using for salads, making cakes etc and as I only had one it was often in the wash when I needed to use it so I decided to buy another one.
~ Pyrex 3 Piece Bowl Set ~
Although I initially was only going to buy one new mixing bowl I ended up buying this set of 3, because it seemed like good value and I liked that they were all different sizes so could be used for different things. The different sized bowls are: 0.5 litres, 1 litres and 2 litres.
~ Price ~
I paid around £8 for mine as at the time the set was on offer (which is one of the main reasons that I bought them) but the retail price is usually around £12-£15 for the set, depending on where you buy it from, which is still good value considering the quality of the bowls.
~ Design ~
These are just simple mixing bowls, but because they're made from clear, thick glass they look quite cool and they look good quality and well made too.
I love that they're clear, this comes in particularly handy when I am using one of the bowls to blend some fruit with a hand blender as I am able to see if there are any lumpy bits which haven't blended at the bottom. Same when it comes to making and mixing a salad - I am able to see if any particular ingredient has got stuck at the bottom of the bowl.
~ My Opinion ~
I love this bowl set! I have had the bowls for around six months now and I have gotten so much use out of them and they're all still looking good as new! I tend to use the medium sized one (1litre) the most often because it is the perfect size for salads and soup and things and I often eat directly out of it like I would with a normal bowl as it is not that much heavier than a normal bowl but it holds a lot more food and looks nicer too.
The larger bowl I tend to use for mixing cake mix or pancake batter. The smaller bowl I use mainly for marinating food, mixing eggs, and stuff like that, it also comes in handy when I want to blend a little fruit - i just put the fruit in there then use the hand blender. Even though it is the smallest bowl it is still a good size. All of the bowls are dishwasher safe but because stickier things like cake mix and stuff really tends to stick to the bottom and side of the bowls I always rinse them first.
They're also safe to go in the oven as they are heat resistant. I don't put them in the oven as I have other bowls and trays etc which I use for the oven however I do often put them in the microwave when I want to warm something up like soup or something. The bowls do get really hot so I always need to use an oven glove to take the bowl out of the microwave then let it cool down a bit.
The bowls are also fine to go in the fridge so I often put some left overs in the smaller one and cover it with cling film and they're also freezer safe which is handy although my freezer isn't big enough for any of them apart from the smallest one but I use this regularly so I never use it to freeze stuff, I just use small plastic containers for that.
The bowls are all in amazing condition after regular use for around six months and there are no chips or noticeable scratches or anything like that. The glass is very solid and sturdy and it feels good quality, and although I've never dropped any of mine luckily, I think they would easily survive a fall because of how durable and well made they are. I am really pleased with these bowls and I think they'll last me for at least a few more years!
~ All in All ~
Durable, good quality, good value and really versatile bowls - I actually can't think of any disadvantages. Highly recommended!
Five out of five stars.
A three piece bowl set for £8.99 with a ten year guarantee. It is hard to not find this option attractive.Pyrex are a company who are renowned for top quality products and with the guarantee they offer an amazing product which combines reliability and real quality.
Vital and versatile
This is one of those sets that everyone should have! These bowls are so useful and versatile, and you know that with Pyrex you'll be getting a good quality product - or in fact three products as is the case here!
I bought my set a while back and think they cost around the £10 mark but (as with just about everything!) prices have gone up over the years. In Argos this set retails at £14.99 but is currently reduced to £11.99.
So we have three bowls here - small (half litre, diameter 14cm), medium (one litre, diameter 16cm) and large (two litre, diameter 21cm). They can be used in conventional ovens up to 300°C, are stain resistant and dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe.
You can tell straight away that these are tough bowls. They are thick and strong and you feel they can withstand lots of use. And as I say, I have had these for several years and they really do look as good as new - no chips, major scratches or wear and tear. So definitely decent quality. They have had many sessions in the dishwasher and they always come out really clean - whatever they have been used for.
And you can really use these for anything so they are very handy to have in the kitchen. I use them, for example, for marinading chicken, for making (and serving) potato salad, for making cake mixes with my little girl and for general storage of food in the fridge. They are really versatile and can be used for anything at all really - and of course the fact you know the bowls can be popped in the microwave or dishwasher is an added bonus.
They are perfectly presentable so you can also happily use them as serving dishes. I find them really useful for barbecues when you can pop in pasta salads and so on.
Overall I really recommend this set. The bowls are versatile and durable and you can use them for cooking, mixing, serving and storing - they are also tough and strong. A great set!
