==Pyrex Oval Casserole Dish===
There is something that I really like about a nice bit of Pyrex and to be fair the majority of my cooking items in the kitchen are made up from Pyrex. There are so many good things about the collection of dishes, jugs, and bowls that I have in Pyrex and this is probably why I continue to buy it.
However that said the majority of the Pyrex that I own is a hand me down from either my mum or my mother in law. This Pyrex Casserole Dish is just that although I am not sure who actually gave me this item but I am pretty sure I didn't buy it myself. The oval casserole dish is a good enough size to do a casserole for 4 people easily as it has a nice 1.7 litre capacity. I think you would be looking at paying around £10 to £15 pound for a dish with a lid such as this one which is not a bad price and in line with other makes and styles.
I am not really surprised that this dish is still in such a good condition considering its age because of the fact that Pyrex seems to go on for ever and is so difficult to break or chip or generally damage. The dish I have does look a little cloudy on the bottom where it has been scratched numerous times from cutlery or scouring pads for cleaning but this is only to be expected.
Pyrex is not only good at being tough and break resistant (to a certain extent) but it is also much easier to clean than a lot of other cooking equipment and even with the most baked on sauces or stains I find with a small amount of soaking and a little scrubbing the dirt will simply peel away from the dish which makes for such a nice change as no one likes to stand scrubbing at the sink for hours on end!
This Pyrex casserole dish is easy to use although unlike the jugs I have does indeed get hot and you will need to use oven gloves when removing it from the oven. It seems to retain the heat well and any casseroles or stews I have cooked in the dish always turn out really well and I do like the fact that the clear glass enables you to see the cooking process inside the pot.
The lid sits on top of the dish okay although it is not as snug as it could be or as well as some other pots or dishes you can get and when removing it from the oven I do always make sure that I hold on to the lid as well as the dish so there is no chance that the lid falls off. This is not a major problem but one area where the pot could be a little better. However this pot being a good many years old I can't say whether they have adapted the current design of the ones that can be purchased nowadays.
All in all though it has to be said that this is one of my most used and well loved pieces of Pyrex and it really can't be beaten in the kitchen. I have often been known to use the dish without the lid in order to cook things other than casseroles and because of the ease of cleaning and cooking this has worked well. Aside fro the slightly loose fitting lid I can't really fault this product so I think for that reason I will award this product a 4 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: a nice dish
