Richard Bramble is an artist whose paintings are used on a variety of ceramics, materials and greetings cards. Bramble is based in Sherborne, Dorset, where he works and has a huge studio shop (well worth a visit if you are in the area). He also has a stall at Borough Market in London every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The range includes various paintings of fish and shellfish, game birds, farmyard animals and ingredients, which includes a saffron flower and aubergines. The designs are printed on to many objects, including aprons, tea towels, clocks, cheese platters, wine coolers and a range of crockery including plates, bowls, teapots, egg cups and roasting dishes. The range is huge and there is something to suit everybody.
This review is for the Holstein-Friesian Cow Roaster. For those of you who don't know, Friesians are the lovely black and white cows you always see in the countryside responsible for producing a lot of our milk. Having grown up on a dairy farm, I have always loved cows, and think that Friesians are a beautiful breed, with every one looking a little bit different with their fantastic markings.
The roasters come in two sizes - medium and large. The dimensions are:
Medium: 30cm (12 inches) long, 23cm (7 inches) wide, 6cm (2.5 inches) deep
Large: 36cm long (14.5 inches), 27cm (11.5 inches) wide, 7cm (3 inches)
I was brought the medium one for Christmas by my Grandma. The dish is made by Jersey Pottery, a family based pottery based in the Channel Islands. The work that goes in to creating each and every item is amazing - just briefly the digitally scanned pictures are silkscreen printed onto transfer paper which is then cut out by hand, soaked and placed on the glazed ceramics before firing. This is a time consuming process which I think justifies the price tag.
The dish is rectangular with curved edges. It is fairly heavy and feels sturdy. It has a nice glossy finish to it, with the picture of a Holstein-Friesian covering most of the base of the dish. We are quite big eaters in my family, OH especially, so the medium size would comfortably do four of us, but for a family with smaller appetites this dish size would probably serve five to six. So far we have cooked lasagne and fruit crumbles in the dish, and used for Sunday roasts to display the roast vegetable on the table as such a delightful dish needs to be shown off! I love the way that a plain white ceramic dish is transformed as the picture is revealed.
The dishes are all microwave, oven, dishwasher and freezer proof so very versatile and easy to look after!
The day my dish was purchased at Borough Market, Richard Bramble himself happened to be there, and has signed the dish for my husband and I which I thought was a lovely touch.
The medium dish usually costs £34.95, but is currently on offer on his website for £29.95. The large dish costs £39.95.
Overall it is a great product. I cannot wait to move from the East End to my country cottage where I will have more room and will be able to purchase more of this fantastic range! Five stars for the amazing Holstein-Friesian Cow Roaster.
