      Heart cake pans

For Valentines day I had a little party at my house for all my mummy friends and the babies. We always try to make cakes or cookies when we get together and for this party, because it was Valentines day, I decided to make some heart shaped cakes as I had found these great pans from Cookingtime. Of course the theme was hearts, hearts and more hearts and these pans worked really well.

What I like about them is that they are quite small and so you can make lots of little cakes in them instead of one big cake. I decided after the fact as I only bought one set of four that I probably should have bought another set or two as when I finally finished making lots of little cakes in them, baking some, waiting for them to cool, baking more etc that it was a bit time consuming but I was really pleased with the results.

The pans are sized 9 x 9 x 2cm and in this set you get 4 pans. They are made of a non-stick metal. I decided to make these cakes using muffin mix that I had bought and it worked really well. I greased the pans but I did not line them as this would have been really fiddly. Then, as there are no directions on a packet of muffin mix for pans this small I decided to just fill then just over half full as I knew the mixture would rise. They did rise quite a bit and got to about the top of the pan so I judged it quite well.

To get the baked cake out was fairly easy. The non-stick worked well but I did need to cut round them with a thin knife in order to help them out a bit. Once they were out these were nice and easy to ice as they ere quite small. I put some pink icing on them and some sprinkles too and they worked out so well. THe shape of the heart stayed well and they baked into the shape well and did not fall apart once you took them out of the pan.

This set of 4 cost me £9.75 and are great not only now for Valentines day but for special birthday cakes/anniversary cakes etc as well.
