I visit Holland & Barrett weekly to top up on products and for a browse. I had suffered with symptoms that affected my throat leaving it feeling dry, scratchy and irritated to the point of making me physically sick. These awful symptoms continued for 12 weeks, and even now my throat can still become dry from time to time which causes me to feel a little anxious. I have had no real diagnosis, other than it is a viral infection. I am left unsure, and have been sourcing natural products to help relieve my symptoms.
I find hard boiled sweets offer limited relief, and can even cause further aggravation, plus I'm not keen on consuming sweets so frequently. As such I have resorted to carry a few herbal tablets or small lozenges on my person to be able to discreetly suck during the day to keep my throat moist. I find that I need to keep my throat moist by drinking plenty of fluids, and I always carry lozenges or herbal tablets to keep to hand in times where my throat starts to feel a little dry.
I often find that certain situations can aggravate my throat and one such circumstance is when I am at nursery with my son, as the nursery is always overly warm with the heating cranked up. Being in this environment three days a week can leave my throat feeling quite dry by the end of the day. I always carry a few lozenges on my person to help ease my throat symptoms during these kinds of situations. I also have to be quite vocal, which can also wear out my voice and dry my throat.
On my last trip to Holland and Barrett I was inspecting the shelves just to look at all the different products that they have to offer. I noticed the Bee Health Propolis Lozenges, I had previously been using their throat spray, but this wasn't really a product that could be used discreetly. I was pleased to see that the 144g box of lozenges retails at £1.99. This is a good price, as the spray cost me close to £10, so I thought these were good value for money.
On opening the box the scent is quite evident, and even more so when the lozenge is unwrapped. The lozenges are smaller than many other throat sweets, which makes them easy to keep in my mouth whilst still being able to talk. Whilst the fact that I have a lozenge in my mouth is not noticed, even by the children who notice everything, the scent is noticed when speaking to nursery staff. The scent does tend to linger, and is not favoured by my partner who will keep his distance.
The lozenges are a rather strong aniseed flavour, which can be bit of an acquired taste. One lozenge lasts in the mouth for a good amount of time, and the flavour lingers for quite some time after, leaving the tongue feeling cool and slightly tingly. They certainly help to keep my throat moist and relieve the dry, irritated feeling. I find with them being quite powerful that I only consume up to three in any given day where needed, and as such the box lasts a good amount of time.
The lozenges contain Propolis which is a natural substance that is collected by bees, which contains essential oils, waxes and bioflavonoids, which is said to maintain a healthy immune system. Propolis from Bee Health can be purchased in many different formats from sprays, capsules, tablets, liquids and lozenges. The lozenges can be found in Holland & Barrett or they can be purchased through various suppliers on-line.
I like the fact that they are strong in flavour, as this prevents me from consuming too many in a day. I also like that they are individually wrapped, which means I can pop a couple in my pocket for when I'm out and about. If they are stored in a bag or purse the scent will be left behind, however, I generally pop them into my pocket to have them to hand and to prevent the scent being transferred.
The lozenges are dairy free, lactose free, wheat free, yeast free and are suitable for vegetarians. They are not suitable to those that are allergic to pollen.
