I ave 2 children aged 4 and 5. Everytime a cold or cough comes around, both of mine always seem to pick it up. Having tried countless remedies like Tixylix, Venos and several chemists own brands and finding that none of them worked, I was in despair of ever finding a remedy. It's awful when a small child is awake all night, coughing their little lungs up. Not just because you feel awful for the child, but also because you need your sleep yourself if you want to be anything other than a mummy from hell in the morning. A friend told me to try Benylin. I was reluctant because I was only too aware of the fact that whenever I use adult benylin I end up flat on my back! However, the children's remedy is a non-drousy variety. It can be got for either chesty or tickly coughs. It tastes disgusting. My wee ones faces nearly turned inside out when I gave them it! It did, however, work. Almost right away. Best of all, it lasted long enough for the kids to fall asleep, giving the whole family some very welcome rest.
Seeing as we're all getting colds, coughs etc at this time of year, it was no great surprise when our entire household came down with the dreaded lurgy. Our 19 month old, like the rest of us, developed a nasty cough, so I bought a bottle of Benylin ready to beat the cough into submission. The only problem with it is that our daughter loves the stuff! To the point where she now pretends to cough in the hope of getting some! It's got a nice strawberry flavour to it, isn't too sticky or thick and seems to go down well. The other good thing is that it doesn't have any colourings in it - just a clear liquid. It's suitable for children aged from 1 year upwards, and is non-drowsy (which is a bit of a disadvantage sometimes!) It seems to be working so far as well.
Benylin Children's Chesty Coughs provides effective relief from children's chesty coughs without causing drowsiness.
