Advantages: Clear breathing
Disadvantages: Temporary results
Being asthmatic any help I can get with my breathing is welcomed with open arms.
During a winter cold, chest and nasal connecting in conjunction with each other can result in a terrible feeling of suffocation. Yes I can use my asthma inhaler but that's only recommended to be used every two hours. And the horrible heavy feeling on my chest returns much quicker then that during a heavy cold. Being able to breath clearly through my nose is at least some relief until I can take my inhaler again.
That's where these Cavonia Vapour Drops come in to play. The recognisable name of CA-VONIA! (proof that the advertising campaign has successfully implanted the product name in my head) isn't that well know in Ireland as the products are not easy available. However they are widely available in Scotland so that tends to be where I use them most. I have bought it from Poundland before obviously for £1.The packaging differs from the picture above however, the one I use comes in an orange themed box.
I was surprised by how small this actually is, you only get 15ml of the product, a bit on the stingy side I thought when I fist got it. But you soon learn that a little goes a very long way so there is more than enough to see me through at least two colds.
I love all things Vicks and would use them before most products, but I had heard good things about this so I thought I was worth a try. These are different to Vicks as the not only contain Menthol 17.5% but also unusually Peppermint 0.2% this results in a different scent than that of Vicks, it's lovely but I do prefer the smell of my trusted original.
The vapour drops are very simple and easy to use. Just like Vicks Vapour rub these can be placed in a basin of hot water or even a large bowl. I then cover my head with towline lean over the basin and inhale vapours deep in to my lungs through both my nose and mouth, alternating as I go. The sound of cats mating emanating for my chest is defining as the vapours begin to do their work breaking up and dislodging those dreadful glue like webs that have been slowing strangling me from within. I normally end up having to come out from under may makeshift tent as I burst into a fit of uncontrollable coughing as a result of the mucus existing my body into a nearby tissue (sorry for the mental image).
Returning to my tent I can then concentrate more on clearing my nasal congestion. This takes some work, as getting any air through a stuffed up nose is hard work. But with the hot steam and the Cavonia working together I eventually begin to feel more and more air getting through. Just like with my chest, it is best to blow your nose once you feel it working then return to finish the job. The only thing I found annoying was the fact the when I first go under to begin treatment the water is nice and hot. Then of course it begins to become less and less so and as a result there will be less vapour. I understand this has nothing to do with the product itself but is an annoying issue all the same. I have been considering buying one of those electric face steamer things so the temperature will stay nice and hot. As with all things menthol it is best to keep your eyes shut while using it as it can really sting your eyes if the vapours get in.
I will use this again as it worked very well, but I feel it will take some time to get me off my Vicks habit.
I think I need help.
Thanks for reading :0) 2night.
