Halls Soothers Throat Tablets
Advantages: taste nice, short term relief
Disadvantages: only short term relief
It is that time of year again when people who are suffering with some kind of cold or virus are every where. I am unfortunately one of them. In a quest to help my sore throat I went to Tesco's to see what remedies they had on offer. After browsing the shelves I eventually chose Hall's blackcurrant flavour soothers. I can't stand the taste of menthol products or honey and lemon which seem to be the typical flavour for throat sweets so these fruity sweets looked very appetising.
**What are Soothers?**
Hall's soothers are a throat sweet made with real blackcurrant juice. The packet states; "Delicious sweets with a soothing and refreshing liquid centre". This sounded great, a product that would taste nice but also give me some help for my sore throat.
As you open the individual sweet wrappers you are greeted by a deep purple sweet which smells lovely. The blackcurrant scent is quite overwhelming and does not smell medicinal at all. The smell reminds me of wine gums and fruit pastilles.
As you begin to suck on the sweet the blackcurrant is still evident but with a slightly more medicinal taste. It is not over powering and is surprisingly quite pleasant. As you continue to suck on the sweet your throat gets slight relief and you can feel the sweet gently soothing your throat.
After about 5 minutes or so of sucking on the sweet it will break and release the liquid centre. This is the real soothing part. The fruity liquid gently trickles down your throat and takes away the rawness from a sore throat.
My throat feels as though it has been given a great big get well hug however this feeling does not last.
After about 20 minutes my throat begins to hurt again, I know these sweets are only intended for short term relief but I have to say I was expecting more than this.
As I was at work when my throat was really sore I had no other medicine with me so my only options were to continue going through my soothers at a very fast pace or to live with having a sore throat. I chose to take the sweets in moderation as if you eat too much they can have a bad effect meaning you need to go to the toilet a lot more often!
**Price and Availability**
These sweets can be found in most supermarkets and drug stores priced at around 50p.
These sweets are good to provide light and quick relief. I would recommend using them if your throat is slightly sore but any more than this I would recommend are more effective medicine. I give these sweets 3 stars
--also on ciao--
Summary: An OK product to give light relief
