Jakemans Throat & Chest Sweets
Advantages: They are quite soothing
Disadvantages: Not strong enough for a serious cough
I don't know what it is but I've always had a thing for cough/chest sweets. I just generally like the taste of them and buy them often even though there is no sign of a couch or a chesty wheeze. The stronger the better usually, and in this department Hall's menthol are pretty strong. Anyway whilst moseying round the shops I spied these for 50p and thought they can't be that bad.
Jakeman's Throat and chest soothing menthol sweets
The black bag, which contains the sweets, is actually quite menacing in its appearance, with copperplate lettering and boldness it could be that they were designed for Halloween. However this is not the case since this is the standard packaging for the dozen or so sweets, which are all individually wrapped.
The sweets themselves are quite big and I do not believe they would be suitable for young children, simply because of their size and their extreme slipperiness. Once they get wet in the mouth they are very slippery. At over an inch long and of oval shape they are a substantial size to suck on and this I can see as being a benefit should you indeed unlike I have a chesty cough or wheeze, since the quite soothing and easing menthol flavour wil maybe not cure the sore throat, but will definitely be inclined to eases its discomfort somewhat.
They are not nearly as strong as some other versions of cough sweet on the market and this for some will also be of benefit since I know many cannot compete with others such Fishermans friends. This said they are strong enough to give light relief, but not much more. This said the overall taste is very pleasant and for a nice freshening of the mouth they would also fit the bill. As for helping chestiness I really don't think they are of sufficient strength to give much benefit in this area.
Overall I like Jakeman's cough sweets even though they might not be my usual strength, they are a nice sweet. The slipperiness is a bit of a problem if you are unwell and lying down since they are large enough and slippery enough to cause a problem if the go down the throat, but I guess this could be said for most sweets of this nature. The thing here is they are quite a bit bigger than your normal cough sweet. Still for 50p I thought I got another bargain a very nice sweet.
Summary: A nice pleasing sweet
