Yuck, you know when you have a mucus cough, you get that horrible phlegm at the back of your throat and no matter how many times you try to cough it up, (which sounds absolutely disgusting, and horrible if you have to do it in public) there is just no getting rid of it. I hate the feeling in my throat and always need to cough it out so last cough I got like this I bought some Lemsip mucus cough. I chose this one as it was the only one I could find in the shops that was specifically for a mucus. There were other things such as dry cough, tickle cough but only Lemsip had a mucus cough medicine.
On the packaging it says that this oral solution provides symptomatic relief of coughs and catarrh associated with influenza, colds and mild throat infections without causing drowsiness. Lemsip works to relieve a mucus cough with a demulcent, antiseptic base that soothes sore throats and by loosening mucus in the bronchial tubes.
I didn't have a throat infection when I had this mucus cough so I can't comment on the healing power of the antiseptic base but I did find the loosening effect on the bronchial tubes really quite good. The medicine comes in liquid form and is a brown sticky, somewhat thickish liquid. It has an aniseed/licorish taste to it which is really quite strong and potent. You can smell it as soon as you open the lid and when you take some it does burn a little bit when it goes down your throat. It's really strong and I did have to sort of hold my nose to take it but once you have swallowed it you feel like you've done something really nice to the back of your throat and I felt it working quite quickly.
I think this did really help to loosen my cough and my I coughed for the next couple of days I felt like the phlegm was coming away and up out of my throat instead of staying there. It made me feel a bit better and I think it was the strong taste of it that really helped to work. The bottle contains 100ml and I did not finish it with my last cough so I do have some left for my next cough.
The dosage is given on the box and also the leaflet that comes with the medicine. It say, one or two spoonfuls to be taken and swallowed slowly every three to four hours. The medicine is not suitable for the under 12's and obviously as I am not a doctor I would suggest seeking advice before you start on this course of medicine as there are vaious people who shouldn't take this medicine.
A good mucus cough medicine that worked for me.
