Advantages: Clears my nose. Easy to use. Cost. No side effects.
Disadvantages: Only lasts about 30 minutes.
I've had a blocked nose off and on for the past month and a cold that I literally cannot shift. My sister suggested that I try an Olbas inhaler to help clear my blocked nose. I have not tried an Olbas inhaler before, but I was willing to try anything to help me breathe a little easier! The Olbas inhaler cost me just £1.65 from Boots, which I thought was actually a really good price and a price I was willing to pay.
The inhaler comes in a stick form that is the size of a small lipstick. It has a cover on it that is pulled off to reveal a white stick underneath which is made of a smooth plastic with a little hole in the rounded end that goes into the nostril. The inhaler states that it contains cajuput oil, eucalyptus oil, levomenthol and peppermint oil, all of which combine to unblock my nose. I like the fact that all of the products are natural because I usually feel that the right natural products tend to work better than anything else. In order to use it's just a matter of putting the end of the inhaler stick into the end of my nostril and then sniffing really hard in order to inhale the menthol vapours that are emitted. The vapours smell very minty and are quite strong, so much so that initially they make my eyes smart a little but this lasts only a few seconds and then it dissipates.
The inhaler does work and I find that it clears my nose quickly. I would say that if my nose feels 100% blocked before using the Olbas inhaler then after using it the it's only about 20% blocked. However, the effects are short lived and the optimal effects only tend to last for about 30 minutes and then my nose starts to feel all blocked up again. For that reason I do need to use it about twice an hour in order to keep my nose as clear as possible, but I do wish that it lasted a little longer. It's never given me any side-effects either.
Overall, I do think it's worth using this inhaler and it is something I'd use again. However, I wish it worked for longer.
Summary: Worth trying.
