~Nasal Stick from Olbas~
Member Name: newby2
Advantages: cheaper than Vicks, works well
I have been suffering a little bit for the past few days with a cold (suffering quietly as us women usually do) and it seems that we have run out of nearly all the cold related items that we usually have stock piled in our medicine cupboard. I am sure we had a ton of the Vicks inhalers kicking about the house but can I find one when I need one? No. So I had to pop out to Boots yesterday to stock up on a few essentials of which included buying an inhaler of some sort.
I usually buy the Vicks version of these mainly because this is always what I get and have done for many years. However when I saw that the Vicks version of this inhaler was nearly twice the price of this Olbus I wasn't surprised that there was only one of these left on the shelf as opposed to a dozen or more of the more expensive Vicks version.
At £1.59 pence it wasn't a bad price and it was made even better when my 10% professional discount was deducted making it a total of £1.43 that I had to pay. What you get for this price is a little nasal stick housed within a nice plastic tube. There is 695 mg of the product and usually these things last me through a good few colds.
The Olbas inhaler is a pure plant remedy which is used got symptomatic relief of blocked sinuses, catarrh, hay fever, colds and flu. The Oblas inhaler contqains essential oils that have decongestant properties.
There are warnings on the back of the cardboard packaging that state that oyu should not use the inhaler if you are allergic to any of the listed ingredients. Being pregnant I did check to make sure it was okay to use this product and it just states that it is best not to take any non-essential medicines when pregnant but I felt I needed it so much that it was essential and being in the very late stages I am sure the occasional sniff won't do the baby any harm as long as I don't go crazy with it.
The nasal inhaler has a good life expectancy and needs to be used up before June 2014 which I am sure it will. It contains the active ingredient cajuput oil 20%, Eucalyptus oil 20%, Levomenthol 40% and peppermint oil 20%. These ingredients work towards unblocking and clearing a stuffy nose.
The stick is easy to use and the long plastic tube covering is screwed off from the stick without any hassle. Then the stick is placed slightly up one nostril and covering the other nostril the product then needs to be inhaled. The smell is very strong although not enough to make your eyes water or anything. You can smell the minitiness of the stick straight away and the Levomenthol I am sure does the hardest work at unblocking the nostril. You can do both nostrils one at a time and the inhaler will work more or less instantly.
The outer area of my nostril does feel a little "cold" with the mint and eucalyptus ingredients but this lasts only a few minutes whereas the relief of having an unblocked nose will last a good hour or so. I do think that this Olbus inhaler is actually far better than the Vicks ones I usually buy. The inhaler seems a little more slimline and much better for poking up my small nostrils as it feel a lot more comfortable.
I really would rate this product highly and when you have a blocked up nose there really is nothing worse. However the product actually works to rid that symptoms of a horrible cold and combined with the vapour rub I bought and a couple of paracetamol I don't feel as rough as I did prior to dosing up on everything. For the price saving of buying this Olbus inhaler over the Vicks version I would be more than happy to use this one from now on.
I feel that a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a high recommendation is well deserved! This is a perfect item for the coming winter months and the germs that the cold usually brings with it!
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Summary: a great cold item
