“ Brand: Olbas / Dosage Form: Drops / Type: Coughs, Colds & Flu „
Whenever I have a sore throat and cold I like to attack it in a number of ways, cough medicine, paracetamol and throat sweets. For my recent cold I tried the Olbas lozenges as I bought them in conjunction with some Olbas oil as I had run out. I normally like to buy Strepsils but these looked pretty much the same to me so I decided to give them a go. Also, they were quite a bit cheaper which I thinks as nice. A pack of 12 only costs £0.99 and as I can get through quite a few lozenges per day when I have a sore throat I saw this as quite a significant savings for me.
I really liked that these lozenges came in a convenient little packet, almost like a little cigarette packet so they are easy to stash in your bag and take out for the day with you and they don't take up too much room. Each lozenge is individually wrapped in a foil sealed pack which is nice as you know they are safe and haven't been tampered with and also, unlike say a packet of Lockets, you don't have to worry that these will fall out of your bag and fall to the bottom and then you find them months later a little bit sticky with all the fuzz and rubbish from your bag stuck to it.
The flavour of these lozenges is really nice. They contain menthol so they do a really good job of clearing your sinuses whilst also making your throat feel better. The honey and lemon is really nice and sweet and sticky and very tasty. These lozenges actually contain real honey so you do get a nice real honey flavour and not a manufactured one. I think the honey definitely makes the sweet dissolve really nicely in your mouth and when it goes down your throat is does seem to coat it nicely and makes my throat feel better whilst I am sucking the sweet. The effect does not last forever and you do need to eat quite a few of these sweets over time but I think they work for me well.
There is also vitamin C in this lozenges which I think is a nice inclusion as its always nice to boost yourself up on Vitamin C when you have a cold so to already have it in a medicine you are taking is great.
All in all, a nice pack of lozenges for when you have a dreaded cold.
Olbas Oil is a product that my Mum has used for as long as I can remember. My first memory of being sick involves my Mum placing Olbas Oil on a tissue and leaving it on my pillow for me. Over the years I have come to trust Olbas Oil and this is what prompted me to try these lozenges.
These lozenges are available from Boots for just 99p and they come in several flavours including this blackcurrant & aniseed flavour and a honey & lemon packet.
These lozenges come in a box and for 99p I received 12 lozenges. These are suitable for people aged 3 years and over but I would not suggest giving them to a small child in case they choke on them.
The lozenges are purple (as in blackcurrant coloured) and they are fairly small. They designed to work at clearing your sinuses and I use them mainly for sore throats and if I am suffering from a cold and have a bunged up nose. I usually use these in conjunction with some other medicines to ensure that I am returned back to tip top health as fast as possible.
I love the flavour of these lozenges! In the past I have tried lozenges that have ever been overpoweringly sweet or they have had a nasty medicinal taste to them. These lozenges really are something else as they have a very nice blackcurrant flavour to them and they last for ages too. The aniseed gives these lozenges a bit of a kick and I am sure that this makes me use more of them and therefore have longer lasting relief for my sore throat. I find that a lozenge can be sucked for a good 15-20 minutes before it is finished and this provides me with very long lasting relief.
These lozenges make my mouth, throat and general head area feel fresher, cleaner and healthier. Within just a few minutes of using these lozenges I can begin to feel them working and that makes them fantastic in my eyes - particularly for their reasonable price!
If you are looking for something different to the usual flavours of Lockets or Tunes then give these a try. I did and I will definitely buy them again in the future!
The scent of Olbas oil reminds me of when I was a youngster and my mother would cake my pillow in the stuff and it always seemed to work! I am now in my adult life and prone to the odd cold and sore throat and given the profession I have has a lot of demands on the throat I constantly have a pack of lozenges on the go. I came across these Olbas Lozenges online for a bargain price of £1.50 and decided to give them a go and I have been pleased with my purchase ever since.
For your money you get 24 lozenges which is pretty much as standard. They are a little smaller than your average Tunes or Strepsil but the effect more than makes up for that. These are intended to clear the head, throat and nasal passages all in one go, a big ask. But generally these Lozenges hit the high notes and provide good relief!
They have a distinct blackcurrant taste and a strong long lasting flavour. Too many other brands have a good flavour at first but one which fades. You will not find that to be the case with these Olbas Lozenges. They last in full, fruity flavour until the final moments of you sucking on them. Leaves your mouth feeling fresh and full of flavour which is often the opposite of what happens when suffering from flu.
They last quite a while and get to work straight away. Containing Vitamin C they will make you perk up and the Menthol will work on your head and clearing your nasal passage. You will feel as soon as you start sucking that the airy, fruity vapours with go straight to your head clearing the grogginess, pound the nasal passages and begin to clear them and help ease the pain in the throat. They really work so well and are such a powerful brand that I would recommended them to anyone.
The only downside is that I found that when I have used them for the relief of a cough they have had basically no impact. Considering it says clearly on the pack that this is one of the intended benefits of using these lozenges then it is a bit disappointing. If anything they made my cough worse.
Overall I think these Olbas Lozeneges work a treat in terms of aiding your throat, making you feel better and helping to clear blocked noses etc and despite not being very good at cough relief they are one of the best brands out there!
