Tesco Vapour Rub
Advantages: Just as good as some more expensive ones, works to help congestion and ease coughs
I suffer badly from a congested nose and sinus pain and I have no idea why. I don't think I am allergic to dust or animals but every night when I go to bed my nasal cavities are blocked which is not only annoying but it can actually be a little painful and annoying. I use a decongestant spray when they are blocked really badly and for those times that it is only mild I use some vapour rub as I find that this helps me to breathe a little easier.
I used to always buy Vick's but I tried this one from Tesco and was impressed enough that I couldn't tell the difference between them and as this one was much cheaper it is obviously better value. It costs just £1 and you get a 50g jar of it. Inside the jar the vapour rub is the rub which looks and feels just like petroleum jelly only with a really strong menthol smell to it.
The rub is really thick and gooey and traditionally you are supposed to use this when you have got a cold and are having trouble with breathing and sore chests. You rub it in to your chest, back and throat to give relief from breathing difficulties caused by congestion and also to soothe coughs and sore chests.
I always found Vicks to be really soothing when I have a cold and this is no different. It slightly warms on my skin and as soon as I use it I feel much more soothed and comforted when I am feeling poorly.
It helps almost immediately with the pain in my chest caused by coughing and actually makes coughing fits less likely to happen. It does help a little bit on my nose when it is on my chest but for my daily congestion I use it in different ways and keep the rubbing on my chest and back for those times when I have a cold.
For my daily congestion what I usually do is either mix a little bit of the vapour rub with hot water in a bowl and use a towel to cover my head and breathe in the vapours which really does help shift whatever is in my nose and open up my nasal cavities making it easier to breathe. I also sometimes get a little bit of the rub and put a tiny bit inside my nostrils to help even more with opening up my cavities and make breathing easier. Doing it this way opens them up enough that I am usually able to breathe enough to be able to go to sleep.
I am not sure that I would bother buying Vicks again as although it is brilliant this in my opinion is just as good and is a fraction of the price.
Summary: A good quality vapour rub for a bargain price
