Play.Com MBNA Visa
by Daisfunky
Whilst surfing the ever-increasingly popular website that is Play.com, I noticed an ad on their home page for a credit card. What reeled me in was their points for play vouchers offer. It means, that for every purchase you make using the Play Credit card, 1% of the value is credited in the form of "play points" to your account. ... Even better, if you make a purchase on the Play.com website using their credit card, you receive 2% back!
These "Play Points" rack up quickly and can be redeemed for monetary vouchers to be used at Play.com. This does not exclude Play Traders either.
I decided to go ahead and apply for this credit card and my husband and I got an account together. The application process was very simple and we received our cards within a matter of days. No need to send any form of identification or proof of income, no hassles, just a quick telephone conversation and a contract to sign that came through the post the next day!
It's been over a year since I started with the MBNA credit account. Since then I have bought nearly 50 blu rays, all of my children's Christmas presents for this year and I have already got another £50 to spend on whatever I like. I can not tell you just how much of a difference this card has made to my life! In these times of economic decline and financial distress, it is glorious to get something back for your shopping and still have the ability to treat yourself once in a while.
Here's the secret to how I have managed to build up so many points:
Use your card for EVERYTHING. You budget for food, fuel, clothes, utility bills, paying off store cards....right? Use the Play Card and at the end of the month, pay off the card with your debit card. This means that most of the time you are paying no interest- the play card becomes a discount card on everything you buy!
I have called customer services on a couple of occasions, once when we went abroad and found the card had locked. (They now have a simple texting service where you can send them a quick text saying where you will be travelling to and what date, and they won't lock the card!) and I called another time when charges were wrongly made to my account. Both occasions I spoke to a friendly, well-spoken advisor who quickly repaired the problem and didn't waste my time.
I am so pleased with my MBNA experience that I have got another credit card with MBNA which gives me AirMiles. Read the complete review |

MBNA
by Hazel
I have been a customer of MBNA's for a great number of years (so many I can't even count that high), I have always paid my balance off in full and never accrued any charges. Because of the number of years I've been with them, they gradually increased my limit to £15,700. I went on-line yesterday to pay my balance off and saw that it ... stated my credit limit as £500. When I contacted them, they said it the account was reviewed and they decided that £500 was enough?!! I pointed out that only two months ago I purchased a PC for nearly £2,000, so how can they deem £500 enough?! I pointed out how long I had been a loyal customer, but that didn't seem to count for anything. I'm absolutely fuming and will be cutting up my cards and going elsewhere . . they didn't even bother to inform me!! Read the complete review |

Vanquis Credit Card
by freelancerbd
I was in need of a credit card badly as my Barclaycard limit would not be increased. I used to do a lot of transactions online and finding no other alternative I applied for a vanquish credit card and 2 days later I got a phone call from card department. After giving them some required information they told me that a complete application ... package would be sent to my address and that I would have to send it back to them. As instructed I sent the application after doing a little paper work, and few days later received my nice blue looking vanquish credit card in 2007. I have held the card ever since. I wanted to use it as a tool to improve my credit score to be able to apply for more credit cards.
I used it quite a few times a month at retail stores. However, after a few months I stopped using the card. I was given a credit limit of £250, which stated static for more than a year. It helped my Equifax credit rating go up and I was able to obtain an abbey current account with a visa debit card that also gave me £200 overdraft.
I have found the customer services agents always friendly. The card is accepted widely and the online facility for checking balances, making purchases, making payments, updating personal details etc is just excellent. The main disadvantage is the high interest rates.
Overall, it is a great card to start with experiencing a credit card for beginners. It is also a good option when in need of cash badly. I would recommend to anyone vanquish credit card who can manage their finances well to avoid extra charges from this high interest charging card. Read the complete review |
