Advantages: Looks chique, great service, quick response and good credit limits

Disadvantages: Minimum earning required, not accepted everywhere

The American Express Nectar Credit card is one of the nicest cards I have ever used. First off, it looks very different to the standard credit card. It has a transparent top part and a purple (nectar's colour) bottom part and has a swirl in the middle. Quite classy looking, but often misleading people to think that it is not a real credit card! I have been told a few time " Ma'am, this is your nectar card, sorry"! and I have to clarify that it is in fact a credit card!

Secondly, the benefits on the card are quite good. If you apply for the card online via the nectar website, you get 5000 nectar points (equivalent of £25). The card is obviously linked to the Nectar card and hence is a great source of earning nectar points. Note: If you choose American Express from the nectar e-stores, you get an additional 2000 nectar points (equivalent of £10) but unfortunately, I did not know this at the time of application, so I missed out on this!

The card arrived quickly and had a very respectable credit limit. The downside is, you must be earning a minimum of £20,000 per year to qualify. They do actually check this by requesting a copy of the last payslip!

The card is accepted in most stores as is contrary to normal belief. Most of the big stores accept it and there is always the odd store that doesn't! However, I must point out that there are more stores that accept AMEX than people think.

The first 3 months, you double you nectar points on all purchases making a very easy addition to the nectar points. After that, it is the usual 2 points per pound spent! I made nearly 9000 points within this period (just by the introductory bonus and spending in the first 3 months) that I managed to buy a printer from Argos using my nectar points (worth £40). Amazing, I think!

Overall, I think it is a great card and a must try for anyone that has a nectar card and fancies an additional bonus!
