American ExpressNewest Review: ... shiny Credit Cards At this point I would like to say that no everywhere takes American Express as I believe they card the store more than Visa and Master card but you will be surprised at how many stores do take the card. Its possible to do your shopping at the supermarket buy petrol holidays ect all from this card and each time receiving the cash back benefit. We haven't had any issues with the card and recently have been on holiday to the south of France where we were able to buy goods and services without any issues The American Express is our card of choice and we use this like a debit card to fully benefit from the cash back offered .... more |

My wife and I were recommended the American Express credit card by our friends because it offers 5% cash back on purchases for the first three months. This might not sound a lot but I have managed to get nearly 200 pounds already this year which is enough for a nice weekend away with the wife . After the first 3 months the rate goes down to 1.5% The APR is very high on this card so you have to be quite disciplined in paying it off each month but touch wood we have managed this each month. The best thing to do is to pay the petrol council tax and any large bill on your c ard and the cash back soon adds up. Getting the card was quite easy we filled out the ... Read the complete review

BA AMEX CARD Double Dips on Non £ or $ Foreign Transactions and other gripes
BA AMEX - I feel a little agreived that I will be hit with 2x foreign transaction charges (~3%) charge every time I use this £ card for all non US$ transactions. Talk about double dipping - I need to get another card for use in these currencies.
Not sure - check Amex's T&C's
Also, why do I have to pay credit charge when using the BA Amex card on the British Airways web site? Seems strange that British Airways does not positively discriminates against the users of its own credit products.
Otherwise - it does what it says on the tin.

I have an American Express card, the green one, and this is the corporative card for the company where I work. Credit card companies make money in 2 ways. 1) They get a percentage from the merchant for each transaction and 2) They charge interests to those who do not pay in full. American Express charge the higher fees in the industry and a result, not all the merchants accept it. However, they are very aggressive with their sales force in selling to corporations and they make money in this way. American Express makes most of their revenues from corporate clients. In my case, for example, with a couple of business trips of 4-5 days per ... Read the complete review

For some reason by just having an Amex makes you feel that little bit more special. Maybe it's the whole image of it or fact that it has such a great reputation with many famous people having exclusive Amexs but you can't help but want to flash it about and use it anywhere you can. This can be a bit tricky as there are places which don't take it. It's not a huge number of places as the majority of the big shops will take it no problem but as American Express charge shops more than other credit cards some shops are reluctant to take it. But that's definitely not a reason to put you of. They really take care of their customers and their customer service is one of the best ... Read the complete review

I chose an Amex Platinum Cashback Card, as the idea of getting cashback on purchases appealed to me. Application for the card was fairly easy, I had to fill in an online form, then wait until they confirmed my application by a letter in the post. The information they initially sent me did not fully explain how cashback worked, so I phoned them to ask. I was amazed to find that their contact number was a normal landline number - not an 08 anything. I was more amazed still when the phone rang, and a person answered! No automated "press 1 for this press 2 for that". I was very impressed! The person who answered my call was ... Read the complete review
