Advantages: earn cashback you wouldnt have earned if you used your normal debit card.

Disadvantages: not accepted everywhere yet.

i applied for the american express platinum card mainly being because of the initial offer of the 5% cash back for the first three months. after the three months it then goes to 1.5% which is alright when compared to other cashback cards on the market at the moment.

I use my american express basically like a debit card and always always pay it off in full so you can benefit from the cashback.

Cashback is paid annually from the date you got accepted for the card which is good because it builds up and you get a nice chunk back (depending on how much you spent on the card).

You can only be accepted for an american express platinum card if you are earning atleast £20,000 per annum.

American express is actually accepted in more places now than people may think so there are a lot more chances for you to be earning that lovely cashback.
for example i use mine at certain petrol stations to earn some money on petrol i would be buying anyway, even to do my monthly shop.

a tip to remember even if there isnt a sign saying the shop accepts american express always ask because ive found that usually they do!
