Advantages: You can use the points to spend

Disadvantages: None I dont think

The advantage card, just another bit of plastic to add to your purse or wallet? (Yes guys I did say wallet its a card for men too you lucky things) well just it is just another bit of plastic but there is an Advantage to it!

Its easy to apply for one, its not some sort of credit card so anybody can have one, you can either apply in store just by filling out a quick and simple form or you can apply online. If you apply online it takes roughly 2-3 weeks to get to you. Whereas if you fill in a form instore it has a temporary card attached to it so you can start collecting your points immediately until your permanent card comes through in the post.

Once in receipt of a Boots Advantage Card you can use it in any of your Boots stores and start collecting points straight away. For every pound you spend you get 4points on your card. It works out that each point is a penny so say you build up 420 points on your card, you then have £4.20 to spend. You get points for EVERY product you buy so long as its over a pound. Boots also do incentives usually seen online or in the store windows where if you buy certain products you get double points on your card. It doesn't seem alot a "penny" for every pound you spend but believe me they add up, especially with the boudle points and incentives the do. You can spend them whenever you like (as if you are spending cash) so long as you have enough.

Unfortunately though you can't pay part cash or part advantage card, you need to have the right amount of points on your card for the product you want to buy. For example if you have a product thats £5 and you have 497 points on your card, it might only be 3points away from having enough to pay for it but you definitely need those other 3 points.

I've told a lie further up you don't get points for EVERY product, being a parent to two young babies I go into boots and buy Formular milk regularly, but they are one thing you don't get points with. I really don't know why no-one I ask ever seems to have the answer. I also know you can't get buy the formular tubs with any points on your card either. You also can't use your points to spend on Gift Vouchers, Postage Stamps, Prescription Items. Collecting the points is simple though when you go to the cashier to pay for your products just hand your advantage card and points are automatically added on to your card straightaway. Also if you havn't got your card to hand at that particular time they will put the points on your receipt for you and you have so many days to get your card take your receipt in and get them put onto your card.

When I was pregnant I went online and joined the Boots parenting club, this is another way I receive extra offers for my advantage card. I get coupons in the post, usually ones which say If i buy certain products I'll recieve 100 points or if i buy so many of a certain item I'll recieve double points and a permanent offer is I get double points when I buy pampers nappies, and boots own nappies, and creams etc for babies. So as a parent this is a brilliant incentive to get a card.

I tend to save up my points all year until after Christmas, when its usually the January sales and the majority of things have lowered in price I then use my points to get some Christmas presents for that year. Saves me hell of alot, I roughly save myself over 200points, so a good 200pound to spend on Christmas presents. Obviously you can use your points for whatever you like but every point comes in handy whatever you use them for. So happy using.

Summary: A handy little card to save your points and use to pay for items when you have enough

Ann's right about the milk powder. It's against the law to incentivise people to buy formula milk (and prescriptions) which is why the formula is not discounted or promoted nor advertised on TV. They can promote and advertise follow-on milk though (can't recall whether it's the 6 month or 1 year milk though) and so you should be able to get points (and discounts) on this if you buy it.
