Advantages: 4 points per pound spent is quite generous compared to some loyalty cards, certain perks

Disadvantages: Can take a while to build up points if you don't shop there regularly ,Boots can be expensive

I have had a Boots Advantage card for several years now but I haven't racked up a huge amount of points on it. You get four points for every pound that you spend either in Boots store or online using the Boots website. Boots tends to be more expensive than the likes of Superdrug so I will usually only buy things that are exclusive to Boots or when they are running one of the double or triple points promotions. The latter is a great way to build up your points, but they don't seem to run them as often now.

You can check your points balance on the Boots website (by logging in). Alternatively, it will usually tell you your points total on your receipts.

As an Advantage Card holder, there are a few perks. If you regularly buy Meal Deals, you are entitled to get the sixth one per month for free - as long as you hand over your Advantage card when you buy the previous five, of course! You can also pick up a free copy of the Boots Health & Beauty magazine in-store, and this sometimes has coupons with money off or promotions so it can be useful. Finally, you get sent coupons through the post every so often (I think it's every month) that have money off if you spend £x before the cut-off date, or double points on purchases made before a certain date. The latter coupon can usually be used twice. The coupons vary a lot and are often for things that I have no intention of buying, but the double points coupon is useful!

If you forget to hand over your card for one transaction, you can still get the points added to your total. This has to be done within 30 days.

Generally speaking, I probably only amass around £10 worth of points throughout the year. This is usually enough to pay for certain purchases if I don't have enough cash on me or to buy one or two presents. To build up a substantial points total, I would imagine that you'd have to be spending a lot more time and money in Boots. If you bought Christmas presents from Boots, it would probably soon mount up! Overall, this is a great way to build up some points while you shop that you can later use to buy treats for yourself or presents for other people.

As one final point, you can't spend your points on the Boot website so if you want to use them to pay for presents this has to be done in-store.

Advantage points aren't available on all purchases, but it is usually made quite clear if this is the case.

If you buy online, you can put your card into one of the in-store Extra Offers Kiosk machines, and they will be added on automatically.

Summary: Earn points while you shop at Boots!

I have an Advantage card but rarely shop at Boots - like you, I find Superdrug to be cheaper in first place.
A couple of years ago I did all of my Christmas shopping at boots.com when they were offering triple points online. I got free delivery for spending over a certain amount, all my shopping was done in one go (in November!) and I got about £30 in points...it was great!
