Advantages: Free card, 4 points per £1 spent instore or online

Disadvantages: Some of the prices in Boots are a little expensive.

The Boots Advantage Card can be obtained by collecting a form in store or visiting the www.boots.com website and filling out the online application form, you will then receive your card by post. Registration is free and only takes a few minutes.

The concept of the card is very simple, you will use it when you purchase things from Boots stores or the Boots online website you for each £1 you spend you will earn 4 Boots points which is equivalent to 4p.

On visiting a Boots store you will hopefully find that they have an advantage card machine (ACM) which you can put your advantage card in and then it will show you a little list of offers such as 300 extra points when you purchase something by Loreal or an extra 250 points if you spend £30.00 or more in store, these offers are fantastic and on occasions you will find vouchers for a free trial of something (I had a few free packs of Lotus Olbas Oil pocket-sized tissues last year) or a free gift when you buy something. Also, occasionally they have been known to make small mistakes such as 100 free points (£1.00 in value) when you buy something from the Botanics range and the cheapest item is 49p so as you'd expect the shelves were bare of these toe seperators!

This card has the most generous points system around but then Boots can sometimes be more expensive than other places so it definitely pays to shop around.

If you want to use points for something you need to make sure you have the correct amount of points or more on your advantage card as they don't allow you to make part payment for items.

I normally save up my points throughout the year and use them up at Christmas time when they have their 3 for 2 offers. I currently have around £3.00 and I think I have only visited Boots a couple of times this year to take advantage of the £5.00 No 7 vouchers when you spend £5.00 or more in store (got me an eye liner for £1.70!).

I would definitely recommend getting one of these cards even if you only occasionally shop at Boots as they are free and the points do not have an expiry date.

You can't really give something that is free anything less than 5 stars!

Summary: Definitely worth having for those rainy days when you're bored and browsing!
