Advantages: You can treat yourself, treat someone else or buy essentials with your points.

Disadvantages: You can only get your online points by going to a store (madness!)

I finally got around to logging onto the Boots website this week, and discovered that I could update my Boots Advantage Card personal details online. I was amazed to discover that the address they had for me in their database was one I lived in 10 years ago! So I must have had my Advantage Card for 10 years now! A new card arrived for me a couple of days after I updated my details, which I was quite pleased with.

Giving 4 points for every pound spent, it claims to be the UKs most generous loyalty card. You can often pick up extra points on certain days as well. I don't spend a huge amount on cosmetics or things like shampoos and bath products. But I do shop in Boots fairly often for things like nappies, sun cream and first aid, so the points do mount up quickly. There are some things you don't get points on, such as prescriptions and some baby milks (you also can't spend your points on these), but I think the opticians does give points now.

You can spend the points on just about anything in the store. I tend to buy essentials such as nappies if I'm short of cash; if I'm not I'll treat myself! I've bought Christmas presents with my points in the past. Boots have such a wide range of things now, so there's lots to choose from.

I recently shopped online with Boots, as we only have a small store near us and I needed some things they don't stock. I discovered that whilst you can't spend your points on line, you can earn points online which I thought was great. It was only when I was checking out of the online shop that I realised you have to go to an Advantage Card Kiosk (only in the bigger stores) to collect the points! If I lived near a big Boots store I would have gone there in the first place to do my shopping! So it looks like I'll miss out on the points this time.

Summary: A great card with great rewards.

Collecting online points instore is a bit irritating! I don't see the logic in that at all? They do give you a long time to collect them though - not sure if it's six months or even a year. x

I didn't realise you had to physocally collect the points gained from the internet - thanks for the tip off :o)
