Advantages: Easy to collect and redeem points also get points on phone top ups

Disadvantages: none

I've had a Boots Advantage card for about 10 years now. Unlike most free things I agree to and some other store loyalty cards, I do actually keep this one in my bag and I do use it. I was shocked to get some sort of mailing from them last year where they had totted up how many points I had redeemed and it came to £41 in the last year. I didn't realise they were keeping count!

I tend to collect the points up without realising it, then in that week before payday when cash can be tight, I often just redeem my advantage card points for crisps/ chocolate in my lunchbreak... Its more of a last resort- "oh i'm broke, oh- I have £2.10 on my Boots card- I can atleast get some chocolate..." thing. Though I know a lot of people save their points up for Christmas shopping or a perfume or something extravagant.

I find with the Boots card, where you get 4 points per £1 (still not a lot of points really....but in the store loyalty card ranks, it is generous) you cannot forget to hand the card over to collect the points as the cashiers have it so drilled into them to ask for the card often they ask you for the card even after you have handed it to them already. Then they will ask you again...

When you redeem your points it is the other way around and you often have to tell the cashier a few times you are not paying, you would like to redeem the points ...(you can only redeem the points if you have enough points to cover the cost of the item in full, you cannot knock £1 off a purchase for example if you have 100 points, but you can buy a conditioning pack for 99 points using 99 of the 100 points on your card.. 1p being 1 point for redemptions).

You also get points for MOBILE PHONE TOP UPS. So a £10 top up on your mobile gets you 40 points (=40p) on your Boots Vantage card. You just have to walk all the way to Boots when you need a phone top up and you have to have one of those phone top up swipe cards you can hand to the cashier.

As you have the freedom to redeem your points on anything in store (as far as I know) even things from the pharmacy and over the counter medication, this makes this card very useful and handy. Its easy to collect the points and easy to redeem them.

Summary: A good way to save up for a treat or just handy if you are broke and need snacks
