Advantages: Brilliant loyalty scheme
Disadvantages: can redeem online
The boots advantage card is a loyalty card for the health and beauty store known as boots.
It is free to join and signing up can be done online or via the leaflets found in store. To use these you fill in your details and post the freepost envelope and you will receive your card within a week or two. If you shop before that time keep your receipt because you can add points to the card when you receive it next time you shop from previous receipts. This also applies if you ever forget your card.
The card itself comes in either pink white or blue (you dont seem to be ale to specify this I got pink initially which was then changed for white when mine wore out.
To use the card you hand it over when making a purchase at the checkout or enter the number off the front of the card in the relevant space when ordering online.
The card works by giving you four points for every complete pound you spend there is often special offers where you can get double or triple points as well.
The points translate into money that can be spent in store. 100 points equals one pound. And it is very esy to add the the amount. I seem to pay now with my card more often than using cash.
To check your points balance you can use an advantage points machine in larger stores or check online (to do this you do need to set up an online account). Or you can ask the cashier. When buying online points are given but you have to collect them in a machine (this is a little nuisance if your local store does not have one but they hold the points for months so you can just add them when your out shopping.
To spend the points simply hand over your card at the counter and ask to pay with it. If you do not have enough to cover your shop you will have to make up the difference in cash and if there are more points than you need the remaining points will stay on the card for the next use.
You cannot useyour card to pay if paying with vouchers but points can be made still on any payment in cash.
The card is more than worthwhile no matter how often you shop with boots. The points never run out and its great when your short of cash and run out of shampoo for example.
9/10. My only issues are that you cannot spend the points online and not every store has a machine to collect them.
The comment left is very interesting perhaps pointing out an inconsistancy with boots as I have always been able to pay part with points and partly with cash on a single transaction and have on numerous occasions. It is very interesting to see they do not do this everywhere. hmmm?!
Summary: a great card must have for any boots users

- 19/09/09 you cannot pay partially in points and make up the rest in cash - each item you buy must be totally covered by the points to be able to use them |
