Advantages: Easy to do, Quite generou for a store loyalty schem
Disadvantages: Can't spend points on anything in Boots
£102 and rising £102 is the amount of money I have on my Boots advantage card. Yes, I'm a bit of a hoarder and a bit of a scrooge! It's taken about 3 years to build up to that amount. Before that I saved up enough points to buy goods from Boots kitchen ware section and an alarm clock. There's a Boots near where I work, so it's easy to shop in there for toiletries and cosmetics. For every £1 you spend in Boots you get 4 advantage card points, this excludes prescription charges, gift vouchers and baby milk. 1 point equals 1 penny that can be spent instore. There are lots of special offers where you can get extra points for buying particular items. It's good that these offers aren't just on expensive, obscure stuff that not many people would want to buy. When I got my holiday films developed I managed to get 500 extra points through a special offer. Also there are a few double point weekends for special occasions such as mothers day or Easter. In the larger Boots stores there are advantage card machines where you can check your points balance and find out about special offers. Your points total also shows at the bottom of your receipt along with the points your purchase has gained. There is an advantage card website (www.wellbeing.com) which has details of using your card and redeeming your points for spa treatments and magazines. Boots send out an advantage card magazine every quarter with health and beauty related articles. It's o.k, but a lot of the articles are pushing Boots articles to some degree. There are also details of special offers that are occuring instore. You can redeem your points against any item that has an asterisk on the price label on the shelf. This is the downside of the scheme. Boots has quite a wide range of goods and its a shame that you can't spend points on anything. You need to have enough points to buy an item as Boots don't accept part payme
nt. Like any store loyalty card it doesn't give anything away for nothing, but If you're going to be buying stuff in Boots anywy, it's well worth doing.

- 09/06/02 Even though I know Boots are overpriced and I'm not actually getting anything for nothing, I do like this card! But I did once send them an email asking if I could get the magazine, and I got a very snotty letter saying that 'not all offers are appropriate for all customers' - in other words, we're not letting you have the magazine! I've just cashed in my points and got an £80.00 camera. Not bad a bad freebie was it?
And it took me about 8 - 9 months too.
