Advantages: You get some credit
Disadvantages: customer service and high interest rate
The capital one credit card was something I needed out of necessity just after I graduated as student. It is a card I regret having for a couple of basic reasons.
First of all the high interest rate. When your a little younger you do view money as something to worry about later on. Especially when your living the dream at University. So when I applied for the card the 27.9% interest rate didn't bother me. I had to apply for this because of my low credit rating. There was no other option to go with another card.
Secondly they are quite aggressive in terms of there pursuit of payment. As I still lived at home then I remember my mom getting quite upset by the amount of telephone calls she was receiving from them. Their manner on the phone was fine. The customer service people spoke to me quite nicely however the phone would ring every 3 or four hours. So you would end up with 3 or 4 phone calls a day. Now if your out at work at that had been explained to them by a member of your family that didn't matter because somebody else would still phone. I even remember once when I did pay them and they still range me twice afterwards. There doesn't seem to be any system in place to keep a log on the payments.
Overall
If you need a credit card and have a low credit rating then this maybe your only option. The high interest rate may seem ok as long as you can get some credit. This is perfectly fine and must be your choice. If you have a better rating then steer clear of their Classic card. Secondly make sure you pay them on time and the correct amount. The aggressive tactics are really not needed.
Summary: Ok credit card if you need credit
