Advantages: credit
Disadvantages: nothing
As with all the other letters I get though the post, I receive quite a lot of junk. Some things are a load of crap, but for some reason I decided to give Capital One a try. I love credit and used to have some catalogues. Thesedays I have paid them off and prefer cards. I have a Visa, but since I am a student it is only a small amount one. The letter I received from Capital One was advertising a Mastercard. Even if you have bad credit and so on, they brag that they can find a card suitable. I know their cards are in different price groups and I wanted the £1000 maximum one. This is the lowest one they have. It is the Classic one. I phoned up months ago to apply over the phone and the woman called Mary was alright, if not a bit snobby. I'm sure I am not the only one who has credit, and she probably has some as well. After asking all the usual questions Mary proceded to tell me that they had various cards for people with different circumstances. I told her as far as I knew my credit was good as i've never been refused anything, and I don't have much credit on my name. I told her I wanted to apply for the Classic card, and told her I had a student Visa. Mary decided that the Classic one was too basic for me, and despite my protests that I only wanted this one and the Visa was only a student one, she put me forward for the Platinum one, which was the best with the highest credit limit. Guess what? I was refused. Mary then treated me like I was a nobody and told me if I wanted to reapply in about 5 months then I might have a better chance. So last month I applied for the one I wanted and I received it 2 weeks ago. Capital One have decided to start my limit off at £200 and it will increase if i'm a good girl and pay my bills. However there is an £18 annual fee for having the card and this is taken from your credit, and I was left with £182. This might seem like a lot, but I have spent it all. All I bought was some new curtains, du
vet set, kitchen things and other bits and pieces and it all vanished. Oh well, I am happy anyway. The bill is £5 or 3% of the balance every month - whatever is the greatest, so I will be looking at £5 - £6, which i'm sure I can handle. I might be new to this company, but it seems fair enough and, apart from Mary, everyone else has been helpful and friendly. I would recommend anyone to try this. I think they are helpful for people with bad credit, as one of my friends has been blacklisted and she has now received a card. So it is worth a look from everyone.

- 15/09/01 If you pay up on time, I'm sure it won't be too long before they start offering you extra money. Good op. |
