We applied for a capital one card which we duly received. This card was totally unsuitable for us. On a salary of £35.000+ we we given a credit limit of £400. The APR was 28% and when you see cards advertising their APR rates much much lower you wonder wether to swap which we did!! I found the card very expensive despite the advertising to the contrary. We have a good credit reference so WHY did they give us such a low limit. The helpline was unhelpful, the staff surly and short although we only enquired after upping the limit and we found them to be one of the worst cards for us.They have a reputation of giving cards to everybody who applies which is pretty good of them but they get customers like ourselves who can afford to pay the bill and refuse to up the limit!! I must point out in fact when we did close the account we were £28 in credit and it took them 8 weeks to refund us our money. If that was the other way round they would expect it paying ASAP!!!!! Not impressed whatsoever!!

Just wondering...

Was it the Capital One Classic Visa you had?

It's just that this card does attract a very high APR and only allows a very low limit (I think it is £500 max) as it is designed for people with bad credit histories and/or low incomes. I think that's made quite clear in the literature for that card. The high APR kept me well away from that one anyway...

Like you say, I think on £35,000 and a good history, that card was totally unsuitable for you. I think you could have been looking at one of their Platinum Cards with that sort of salary...
