Advantages: Fantastic value if you have the time to spare
Disadvantages: not for everyone
I've spoken to quite a few people who wish they hadn't bothered signing up for a cineworld unlimited card. But I can't really see a reason, unless they don't have time or don't like films much, in which case I think they were silly for signing up in te 1st place.
I got mine in May and have been going around twice a week ever since. Sometimes more! The week before last I saw 4 films.
At £12.99 I think it's fantastic value, as 2 adult cinema tickets will cost you more than this. You have to sign up for 12 months but you can pay monthly, so it doesn't put a huge hole in your pocket.
If you live in London you can pay £14.99 to include west end cinemas. I think this is probably still very good value by London standards.
It was very easy to arrange - I signed up online in around ten minutes. It was just a case of filling out the usual forms and uploading a photograph. You then got a confirmation email which you can print out and use immediatly while waiting for your card to arrive. I believe you can also do it in the cinema.
I've wanted one for years and have only waited this long because I didn't live near a cineworld before then.
Luckily I work for myself and my job takes me into town during the day a few times a week, so I am often able to take a break to see a film during the quieter times when there are no noisy children.
I'm not fussy and just love the experience of going to the cinema and having a cup of tea and resting my feet. This means I don't mind seeing most films which are on. I love chick flicks, foreign cinema, horror and comedy. Some more serious cinema goers will consider a lot of whats on to be beneath them, meaning they don't get as much value for their money. But not me!
I also love going by myself, which can be a problem for many people, and probably (again) stops other card holders going as often as they could.
The only downside is that I am reluctant to pay to go to the independant cinema now, even though it shows more foreign and independant films, which are more to my taste.
I don't think this card is suitable for everyone. If i was only able to see films at weekends and the odd evening I might not bother, as i get really annoyed by noisy teenagers and people loudly crunching right by my side. I feel I have better things to do with my weekends, as i'm sure many people do if its their only time off, and wouldn't get as much use out of it at all.
But for people like me, who love all sorts of films and who have lots of time to themselves it's ideal. Especially if your cinema can be accessed by bus.
My boyfriend also has one and it means we always have something affordable to do when we need a treat. Because you've already paid for it you don't feel bad paying for a meal beforehand or for popcorn and it can be a lovely Friday night date ritual!
Summary: I will be renewing mine for years to come
