Advantages: Save money if you see more than 2 films a month.

Disadvantages: Can't be used to book tickets days in advance.

When I was a student I went to the cinema often with friends, students always get a discounted price that can be around half price of the normal adult price ticket. However once I had finished being a student I was dismayed, going to the cinema now cost me a little over £6 a time! I really wasn't prepared to pay this much... and that when when I was introduced to the Cineworld Unlimited card.

The Cineworld Unlimited card is a pass which you pay for monthly, the cost is now £13.50 a month however when I first signed up I believe it was around the £12 mark. With this Unlimited card you can see any film, at any Cineworld cinema, at any time and on any day, you can even see more than 1 film in a day! Considering the price of an adult ticket at Cineworld is around £6, you simply need see more than 2 films a month and you're already saving money.

Signing up for a Cineworld Unlimited card is easy. At your nearest Cineworld simply request one, you will then have your photo taken and fill in a form setting up the direct debit. You are given a temporary pass so you can start using it there and then, I believe I had to pay the 1st month up front too using my debit card. You can then start using your temporary card to see films, and your card with the photo arrives through the post not long after. All you need to do at the ticket office is state which film your seeing and hand over your Unlimited card, the card is swiped and handed back to you with your tickets. Easy!

You will sometimes recieve vouchers through the post, such as 10% off popcorn or something along those lines. To be honest these vouchers are usually rubbish as you can't combine them with the combo deals Cineworld's food counters do so you could end up not saving money at all. Of course there is the fact that the food is very overpriced in the cinema but that's a rant for a different day!

Unfortunately you can not book tickets days in advance using your Unlimited card, which is disappointing. You can however book them in adance for the same day, which is what I tend to do on a Friday/Saturday. I will go through to the cinema after work/during the day and get the tickets and reserve some decent seats, then coming back later in the evening when there's huge queues, but march straight past those! You can't take someone else's Unlimited card to the cinema and book tickets for them, they have to be there with you.

I've also heard that on Orange Wednesday's if you present your Unlimited card and your Orange code, you will still get the 2 for 1 offer, except you pay nothing as you're using your Unlimited card. I'm not 100% sure they still do this so I would always phone to check in advance.

Another point I should make is regarding the 3D films. Until 1st May you could use the Unlimited card to gain entry into any of the 3D films showing, however you now have to pay £1.50 as an Unlimited card holder to get tickets. This is a shame, but 3D films cost even more than normal tickets so this will be why.

You can also buy an Unlimited card for someone as a gift valid for 12 months. This costs £162 for cinema's excluding ones in London, and £198 for cinema 's including London.

I have saved alot of money using my Unlimited card, but it's only worth it if you plan to see more than 2 films a month, otherwise you're best off buying the tickets!

Summary: A great card that can save you money if you love going to the cinema.

I can confirm it is policy about the Unlimited card on orange Wed, the unlimited card counts as a "paying" ticket and using the orange code the second ticket is free.

We don;t even have one of these within reachable distance. A shame as it sounds like it'd be worthwhile. Well reviewed.
