Advantages: Watch any movie any time you like
Disadvantages: Cannot be use to make advance bookings
Watching movies is my biggest passion. I have a lot of DVDs but for me you cannot beat the buzz of watching the latest releases projected onto a large screen.
A few months back I started adding up the cost of my excursions to the cinema and found that my hobby was becoming a little too expensive. Going to watch movies 2 or 3 times a week was costing me easily up to £50 a month, maybe more. I had a decision to make.
I noticed that Cineworld's Unlimited Card was due to go up from £11.99 to £13.50 per month (£16.50 per month if you want to use the card at Cineworld's London West End cinemas) starting from the first week in April 2009. Not that £13.50 doesn't represent great value for someone who goes to the cinema as much as me but considering that I would get a 12 month contract (this is a mandatory minimum term) at £11.99 per month I decided one fine day in late March to take the plunge.
I haven't looked back. Ok, so my local Cineworld in Birmingham may not be quite as mint as the second city's newer mulitplexes such as the Vue cinema or the AMC cinema, but it's still a good place to watch movies and I am saving a fortune each month with my Unlimited Card.
With the Unlimited Card you can watch any public screening you want. Some special events are off limits, for example you can hardly expect to get into a premiere using your card :)
You also get regular e-mails as a cardholder and are privy to some special offers, competitions, advance screenings, food discounts etc.
In the 3 months I've had this card it has paid itself back several times over already. I even made use of the spare digital photos they gave me (they printed too many), saving at least another £4.00 in the process. Also, they even let you do Orange Wednesdays as a cardholder, so you can go watch a film with the wicked witch of the west (or a different mate) on a Wednesday without any kind of monetary transaction taking place. Bonus!!
I think this card is great value and recommend it to anybody who has a Cineworld near them and who visits the cinema at least once a week. With Cineworld leading the digital revolution in cinema and the extortionate prices being charged to watch 3-D movies, now is a good time to invest in the Unlimited Card.
The only drawback for me is that you can't use your card to make advance bookings, but that is only a minor quibble.
When you go to get your card please remember to bring some identification, your bank details and the means to pay for your first month. If you already have 2 passport size photos that will help as well. It's also probably worth going during a quiet period like a Monday afternoon, the staff will be able to tend to you better.
At the time of writing this review the month is June. Forget worshipping the sun, I cannot think of anything better on a hot summer's day than to grab my Unlimited Card and go sit in a lovely, dark, air-conditioned cinema all day and watch movies. Absolute bliss!!
The Unlimited card can be purchased from www.cineworld.co.uk or in person at the box office of your local Cineworld cinema.
Summary: Great value for anyone who has a local Cineworld and visits there at least once a week.
