Why is it that when you are trying to get credit(cards or loans)you always come up against so many hurdles.I consider myself to have a good credit rating but then again I may not have one at all as I have never had credit before and because my income is based upon a disabilaty benifit I am always refused because they say I am not in full time employment.

I have two disabled children and a disabled wife and have no choice in what I do,and nor would I like to make that choice between family or job,as it is a full time job careing for them, but no one seems to recognise that.To top up my income I have a private income to help out and that makes a resonable annual income, but I always fall foul of the no job-no credit.

I think that it is about time that all of us carers are reconised as full time workers and should be allowed to put this down on the applications, and that the banks ect. should aknowlegde this fact when making there decisions. You always get the part that says must have a annual income of £12000-£15000+,and I fall into that bracket and a card would certanly help out and I know there are firms out there that can get you them, but at a price!!.And why should I pay to get a card when the banks ect should be doing more to help people in these cases.

It seems to me that carers are classed as unemployed and therfore bad for lending to,but if you have a low paid job they give them away to you and then encourage you to use them well beyond your means.I would love a job but who would then look after my family?my 11 year old daughter, who helps out but can not do it full time. But then again I consider my self to have a job,and a good one at that, but the lenders/banks do not seem to have an idea about this sort of thing and cast a stigma over us.

Thanks for reading, and in case you are wondering what I am doing up at this time of night it is the only time I get to myself as busy 23 hours of the day,but would not change a thing!!

Thank you all for comments, will have a go with the suggestions. To David, about seeing evidence,i have all my money paid into the bank so they no exactly how much goes in and out, also all the bills are paid throuhg the account so they no i am up to date with all. Thanks for looking into it for me.I think that the main hurdle is that i am the carer so will have to do some in my wifes name as not done that before. To Joy,the idea about a few white lies on the application has passed my mind but i do like to be honest, maybe i should change to see what happens.
The thing about a credit history is a good one as i proberly do not have one as i have not had credit before in any way,as i was brought up to think that if you could not pay for it there and then you can not afford it,but ways have changed and it would be nice to know that there is a card there for emergency use if and when required. Will let you know how i get on and thank you to all again

Shazzy & mcdman
I did not mean to imply you were not having problems, it is clear you are, I was saying I can't understand it.

I have obtained all my credit cards since my accident but have had the bank account for many, many years.

I am going to try and do some research because it is all wrong if they are discriminating just because of the situation you have been put in.

Of course they will need to see evidence of your income, no matter where that comes from, but so long as they feel you are able to repay them there must be a law preventing discrimination??

I did not mean to offend, it just baffles me. Maybe it is because I am the disabled one Shazzy but I thought mcdman was too ??

I will be back if I find anything...

Dave :-)

I agree with Shazzy. It is difficult for carers to get credit and her situation is compounded by the fact that she was out of the country for so long. The are card providers that will offer cards but at a price. It would be good if they could look beyond the obvious.

Sue :)
