Advantages: Some good offers available to cardholders throughout the year
Disadvantages: High interest rates
I applied for a Debenhams storecard when i was making a purchase and they explained i would get 10% off that purchase plus 10% off any other purchases i wanted to make that week.
As a card doesn't arrive within a week they give you a card one to use for the initial week until your plastic one arrives.
Applying was quick and simple - i just filled out a form and then a member of staff called up the application line for me. If i was busy i would have felt conscious about holding up the queue but it was luckily a quiet time of day.
When my first card arrived it was purple in colour and had a £500 limit.
After using this one for a year i was upgraded to a Gold Card which gives you a better interest rate and my credit limit was also increased significantly. During their Blue Cross sales they have the added advantage if you need to make large purchases they quite often have a deal where if you spend over £300 it will be interest free for three months and if you spend £600 it is interest free for six months. This is really handy at times like Christmas. Whilst i don't recommend spending that much just to take advantage of the offer if you are making large purchases anyway it's a great idea.
You also receive free tea or coffee in their restaurant with a gold card.
This card has been really good for me but i don't recommend it unless you are disciplined with it and pay the balance in full every month as the interest rates are quite high.
Summary: Good for occasional spending sprees!
