Egg poached me with good deals to start with (Egg Card)

Advantages: Easy to apply for, acceptance is really fast

Disadvantages: High interest rates, no offers to keep existing customers

I applied for my Egg card a few years ago as there was an offer on balance transfers and 0 % on purchases for a few months, so it looked like a good deal.The plan was always to transfer from my existing credit card and to pay it off as soon as possible so I didn't start paying the interest which is extremely high.

It was easy to apply for online and got accepted within a matter of minutes. I don't tend to use it much because of the high interest charges, but recently I had a query on my bill and spoke to an advisor which took quite a while to get through to. She didn't really help me out and I got off the phone wondering why I had bothered.

I also hadn't put anything on the card for ages, and when I checked my statement online there was a 50p charge from egg. I have no idea what it was for - it couldn't have been interest as I hadn't used the card for a while. I couldn't be bothered to ring up and complain though, as it would have cost me more than that in phone calls. I know it is only 50p but that's not the point.

I am probably going to close my account as there are no benefits of this card anymore to me and I don't want them taking anymore money from me.

Summary: Good to start with, but rapidly going off the boil
