Advantages: Great website and Earn as you spend.

Disadvantages: Could be more helpful if you get declined originally.

I recently decided to apply for an egg card as I had been recommended them by a few people. The things that attracted me to them were the advantage of being able to earn money for spending money. With egg you get 1% back off all purchases you make. Also egg have an excellent website where you can check your balance and make any changes you like. I have just got married as well so egg offered me the chance to get a joint credit card with my wife.

Well I applied to egg using the website and things seemed to be going ok. Then I got an email through saying that I have been declined and that was it! There was no reason for the decline. I phoned egg and they said that they could not give me the reason for the decline as their system gives points to people and I did not get enough points. They suggested I wrote to the credit company they use and they will be able to give me more info.

So off i went and after about a week I got some info back. There was no reason why I should have been declined so I contacted Egg again and in the end the lady I was dealing with admitted that there was no reason why I should have been declined. She manually processed my details and I was accepted. The only reason she could give me was that I was living in rented accomodation and maybe the people who live in my flat before me had bad credit.

The whole system in which credit scores are worked out is not fair. I earn well over the amount to have my own credit card and the problems that I had trying to get myself an account with Egg was completely unacceptable. At no time was I given a proper reason for my decline. To make matters worse I am in the process of buying a house so being turned down for credit was a major worry.

Things seem to be sort now and I have a working account with Egg. I am not completely happy with the credit amount I am allowed but that will hopefully change in a few months.

I just thought I would write this review to warn some
people incase they thought that applying for a credit card is an easy process. The invention of the web is a good quick method of doing things but you cant beat the good old telephone for getting results.

I am happy with the facilities that Egg offer and their website is very good. I can keep track of my current balance and can change how much I want to pay each month quite easily. The staff at Egg are always polite and helpful but they could have given me a little more information when I was getting annoyed with them.

To cut a long story short you should be fine with EGG if you have had a permanent address for the last year or so. If the credit check that they have to do is a bit more complication and involves a few address that they have to check then be prepared to be declined. Dont give up though as it is worth it in the end!

It's standard procedure in the industry to be vague in the reasons for declining credit, so that people can't go back and tweak their application, knowing a bit more about the lender's criteria. At the end of the day, it's their decision who to accept.

I've just got an Egg card and had no problems with getting one. This is despite the fact I've only been in my current address for three months and have not been terribly good with my payments!

Though unfortunately you will now only get half a percent on everything!
