Advantages: Easy to use, low APR, extra discounts/benefits

Disadvantages: none

I never had a credit card before, I never really understood them. Egg promise to make things clear on their web site - and they actually do.

The web site used to have a few niggly bugs (I opened an account as soon as they started), but they have been sorted out now.

The APR is great as far as I know. At time of writing it is around 11.9% which I think is good, but there are benefits for balance transfers as usual. I do not know too much about this as I always pay the full amount.

You can check your statement whenever you feel like it, day or night, which is great. You set your own passwords and things, making it easy to sign in - but there is enough information to make it hard to break into. I have used some other online banking systems who insist you use their passwords, and they are often too hard to remember.

Why did I open a card? Online Shopping. You can get some seriously good bargains on the web, and the eggg card is a great way to do it. It has set up deals with many other online retailers to bring you special offers. Some places (it varies from week to week) offer you extra incentive if you have an egg card - from freebies to extra discount. Egg always gove 2% cash back for online purchases and 1% for offline - but occasionally offer special deals on this too. Once they were giving away 5% on everything for a month! I made about £20 cash back in a year, which came just in time to spend a bit extra on my girlfriends birthday present.

I now buy practically everything on the card, it was set up easily after a few forms (online) and a direct debit slip for my bank. The whole lot is fully automated.

As for security - well they offer the guarantee but to be honest with you it's probably no better than any other card.

I love it, and wonder how I ever lived without it.

It is a great card (the Boots/egg thing), when you pay by card at Boots, you get your points for the purchase AND your points for using the egg card!

Sounds like a good idea. It certainly is a good card, the rates are incredibly competitive. Egg were the firsst to venture into this field of Internet cresit cards and despite a few complaints from some people I believe these are only teething problems and were all dealt with properly.

Very informative Op!
If I should ever get a job here (I am Swiss so that's not easy) I'll definitely go for the Boots Advantage card combined with the Egg card, after all you even get Boots points for every £ you spend on the card! :)
