Advantages: 0% for 6 months

Disadvantages: End up owing double, worst customer service in my entire life, stress, worry, possibly ruined credit rating.

I don't know where to begin .Egg have treat me terribly and have the worst customer service I have experienced in my 35 years. I regret utterly becoming involved with them.

Firstly, I applied and recived the documents. I sent these off and heard nothing for weeks. I rang Egg - "yes, we received your documents, but we've lost them. I'll send some more to you."

Weeks pass...

I phone up, "oh, sorry, we'll send some new documents for you to sign". These arrive and I duly sign them.

Around 2 months from first applying ANOTHER direct debit form arrives to sign (yes, that's 3 they want!). I refuse to sign a thrid one, and a few days later my card turns up.

I go online and attempt to carry out balance tranfers. I try from 1800 - 2300 before giving up. I telephone, and at one point am on hold for 20 minutes! They undertake to do the balance transfer for me themselves.... only they can't because their computer will not do so! But promise to sort it out next day. This is a pattern which repeats ad infinitum. Eventually, they promise to send cheques to do the balance transfers (which accounts have now not been paid 2 months running because Egg keeps promising me time after time after time that they'll sort it out next day). Said cheques mysteriously take 10 days MAXIMUM to clear (Yes, funny how OUR cheques only take 3 days, but there you go).

10 working days expired Friday (its now the following Saturday 2230 and cheques STILL not paid into my accounts) - Total time on hold with Egg - 4 hours. Total telephone calls to sort this now 19. Problem STILL not sorted. The amount of the alledged cheques is debited from my Egg card, so I am now shown as owing (due to interest on the other cards) more than DOUBLE I did when I joined Egg!!!!

Total and utter nightmare.

Update - eventualy sorted it out and Egg fully apolgised, admitted thier fault and gave me a payment by way of apology. OK.
3 years later, out of the blue, get an email from them saying I owe them money! - Get straight onto them, they admit that someohw, 3 years after I closed the account, they've mixed my details up with someone elses! - Again by way of apology they sent me a cheque for a reasonable sum!

Update at 17-04-01
Egg sent CHAPS (some sort of electronic money transfer) in place of the "missing" cheques. Sorted at last.... well, no. My old CC company tried to process the transfer only to find Egg had cancelled it since sending it! Now I'm in BIG trouble with my old credit card compmany - threatening letters, collections dept the lot. Why did Egg cancel it? Heres the best bit THEY DON'T KNOW EITHER! Thats right, Egg don't know why they did it! Meantime, old Credit Card co say why not just make one months payment? Good, question. Answer: Because Egg has debited my bank account for the due amount as if they HAD made the payment! So not only have they NOT paid the old compmany, but they've made damn sure that I cannot either. Rang Egg customer service as soon as I got home and got the letter from my old company. Eggs answer? A. We do not know why we did this. B. We'll phone you back tommorrow. To get this undertaking, I had to ring them 4 times and was on the telephone 1 hour 11 minutes. Their online balance transfer system is still not working for my card either (only 2 months on!), so I cannot even do it that way!Oh, as for ringing me back tommorrow - thats what I am told EVERY time! Egg have truly stuffed me, for reasons I cannot guess. We are now in severe financial trouble through absolutely no fault but Eggs - a fact admitted to by Egg staff at almost EVERY telephone call (remeber that figure? Now standing at 32 calls, and counting).
We are in despair.....

A very useful opinion. Thankyou so much for your comment on my opinion (BSM opinion), it was very helpful. I have written to BSM again and they have agreed to give me back £30 out of the £965 I wasted, although they would have fobbed me off with nothing at first. I am still not satisfied with this though as I am only a student and cannot afford to lose this sort of money.
