Advantages: Good rates, Cashback, Double casback with many online companies

Disadvantages: Expensive paper statements, Linmited payment options

I decided to choose Egg more than a year ago now, enticed by the (then)very low interest rate of 9.9 percent, and the introductory rate (then 4.9 percent). About 4 months after I joined, the rate went to 10.9 percent and then again a few months later, up to 11.9. The zero percent introductory offer now available has to be the best on the market., and even at the higher normal interest rate, this is one of the best available.

However, what really grabbed me was the offer of cashback and the ability to shop online for a higher cashback rate. Before Egg, I had been a customer of Barclaycard for some years (in fact I still have my cards). I still have a huge amount of Barclaycard profile points, which seem utterly worthless given their poor Reward Scheme. 10 years of loyal spending and I could just about afford 2 magazine subscritions or a lemon squeezer... I want more value for my hard spent money.

Although I tend to pay off my balance most months, I needed a low rate of interest to purchase some new PC hardware, and Egg seemed to fit the bill. In fact I shopped at Dabs.com and earned 2 percent cashback.
To date, I have earned about £45.00 cashback from Egg, not bad going.

One area of criticsism would be the inability to control your payments to suit you - there is only one option, monthly Direct Debit. Recently however, there has been an option on the website to use a debit card to make extra payments, but this is still pretty inflexible. You can't for instance make a payment from your online bank account, or pay cash in at the bank. A small gripe though considering the benefits.

Overall, I would really recommend Egg - I now use it almost exclusively, and my other card issuers will need to come up with something pretty special to win me back.

The monthly payments can be whatever you choose to be, as long as they are above a percentage of the total outstanding balance.
