Advantages: Cash Back Scheme

Disadvantages: Electronic Processes seem to lead to problems

Just a note to let you know that they get it right SOMETIMES, the last change I made went through first time. I think I'm still in shock!

I have had my Egg card since November. I chose Egg because of the cash back scheme and interest free credit for the first 6 months. I have also had a savings account with them for over 3 years nd I have had no problems whatsoever with this.

Everything was fine until April. I changed my payment details on line (leaving plenty of time before my payment was due) and the payment wasn't changed. I sent a secure email to ask what had gone wrong and to say that I wanted to pay off the full balance as soon as possible. I was advised to send a secure email with my switch details and exactly how much I wanted to pay and they would take a payment that way. I waited over a week and the payment didn't go through. After a couple more emails and eventually a phone call the payment went through, the day after my May statement was issued. Due to this (and the fact that I am now set up to pay the full balance) it meant that the wrong amount would come out of my account once again. I didn't trust the internet so I dealt with Egg over the phone with this problem. Changes were made and I was assured that only £75.25 would leave my bank account in May. I checked my bank account yesterday and discovered £100 went to Egg. Yet again I have been on the phone to them.

I have yet to receive a satisfactory explanation from Egg as to why all these problems have occurred...I do know of one bank that used to give its customers £10 for every mistake made on their account...I certainly haven't had this offered from Egg.

Due to the fact that I am not getting a satisfactory service from Egg I am very tempted to cut my card up and also withdraw all my money from the savings account.

My advice is that if you have an Egg card ensure that every time you make a change it has actually gone through, I wo
uld recommend making the change on the internet and then phoning up a few days later to check it has gone through. If
anyone has any ideas on how to avoid this problem in the future I would be happy to hear from them.
