Advantages: Security, Online Access, Good Limit
Disadvantages: Slow Login, Not the cheapest rate
Egg gave me my second ever credit card and I have very few complaints about it. I only got a credit card in the first place, because it is an easy way to pay for things on the internet. Let’s face it, it’s an easy way to pay for anything down a phone line! In general, signing up for one is easy. After logging on to the homepage you click on register. After filling in the usual details concerning your name, occupation, passwords, etc you request is submitted. All you have to do then is wait for them to email you with your confirmation of acceptance (or rejection if you are deemed loathsome and unworthy!) When you receive your confirmation email, you will be given a link to follow, allowing you to log on to see your details. Your credit card will follow a few days later and a pin number for your card will arrive by mail a few days after that. Online access is good, although signing on to the site to view your account details can become quite tedious, with several lines of information and passwords required. However, the added security this system provides should help ease the minds of those worried about internet fraud. Some cards can earn you cashback . Cashback has just been reduced from 1% of your purchases to 0.5%. Please note that you will not get cashback on transferred balances. The money that you get back is returned to your account, once a year in September I believe. In order to counteract this reduction in cashback, Egg now have a rewards scheme. Basically this is a few deals they have made with some companies that allows you to purchase some items at a reduced cost. You are usually notified by post of these offers from time to time. The main purpose for me in getting an Egg card was their introductory offer on transferred balances. I already had a credit card and transferring the outstanding balance from that to my new Egg account saved me 6 months interest. Something you might li
ke to consider yourselves!. After all every penny counts and I saved myself over £50 in interest charges by doing this. That aside, the interest rate on purchases is not the cheapest on the market and people with no outstanding balances elsewhere may want to look for a card with a lower interest rate. All in all the card has no annual fee and is very useful, due to the added security for purchasing online. I will however, be transferring my outstanding balance to a lower interest rate card at the end of my interest free period! The Egg website allows you easy access to all your account details and I have found this invaluable. Logging on to your account you can also determine how much you would like to pay back each month, be it the minimum, the complete outstanding balance or an amount in between. You can also see all your previous statements. Good card, good website, excellent customer service and a very generous limit. Even when I transfer my existing balance to take advantage of another credit card company’s introductory offer, I will be keeping hold of this, a very useful card indeed! Oh and with all credit cards you can take out cash from a cash point, although this is usually charged at a higher rate than on purchases and should be avoided if at all possible!
