Advantages: None, any more
Disadvantages: Only half percent cashback
If a Company upsets you I am all for telling them to stick their business and go elsewhere. Of course, don't burn your bridges before you have found an alternative, but boycotting is a powerful weapon. So Egg have cut their cash-back to half percent. It's a shame because they have conducted my account without any hiccups. I have contacted them to ask when my account is going to be credited with cash-back earned after August this year, as I don't want to wait till this time next year before getting it. There are two alternative cash back cards that pay a full 1% on ALL purchases without any catches. These are Halifax Gold Card, which used to be a Bank One and Capital One's Circle Card. The Halifax card you need to have a minimum income but do not appear to need one for the Circle Card. Beware of other promising looking cash-back schemes. Some only pay half percent up to a certain spend, others pay you in points, others in vouchers that you don't really want. You want a card that credits your account with real money.

- 22/10/01 Good advice. I'm a great fan of voting with my feet, and then seeing if anyone noticed. If they didn't, then who cares? If they did, then I take great pleasure in telling why they no longer get my business. Chris |

- 13/10/01 I got an e mail too! I'm wondering about the September cashback payment as well - the situation doesn't seem very clear. Sue :O} |

- 13/10/01 It's worth remembering to check out the interest rates of these other cards too, as I'd be much more interested in genuine low rates than cash back schemes. |
